    Hi Traktor Drivers,

I'm considering buying Mixed in Key and have a few questions with relation to Traktor.

I already have a large music collection (predominantly 320k MP3s but also some FLAC and WAVs) where most of it has been carefully beatgridded, rated and genres properly set.

    1) Will running Mixed in Key over my collection cause damage to the ID3 tags?

    2) When I next launch Traktor will the Key fields be updated (i.e. will I need to re-import the files into my collection?)?

    3) If I use the option to append the detected Key to the beginning of my Comments will my comments be preserved faithfully?

    4) How does Mixed in Key handle a situation where the Key appears to change throughout a tune?

    Also:

I use both Mac and PC - from what I can tell it's not possible to buy a cross platform license. Is there a means to buy both Mac and PC versions

Also is there a difference between the Allen and Heath edition of it verses the regular Mixed in Key?

    Thanks for the reply Karlos!

Rather than Chad having to answer my questions personally maybe other potential buyers benefit from Chad's answers too.
    ; )

    I'll PM him anyway ..

    Cheers!

Yeah sure, there are plenty of members that use MIK, they may help out as well. Chad usually appears when someone posts about MIK anyway. I think he has some kind of Spider-Sense Lol

    1. No
    2. No - Consistency Check will do just fine.
    3. Yes - MIK will just add the "key" with a "-"
    4. A question for Chad

i dont think i can live without mixed in key, i used it since ver 2.5 (now its 4.01) now it has become the basis of how i mix or sort my tune in itunes/traktor

and from experience, if you dont tick "keep itunes folder organised" in itunes it will be fine to scan wqithout damaging the id3, its recommended that you do it before you put it into traktor tho

OK so I bought the Mac version - currently analyzing small batches within my library of 14,000 tunes. ; )

    Thanks for everyone's input.

    Cheers!

My spidey sense is tingling ;)

Glad you decided to jump on board jasefos, we appreciate your support. I'm also glad to hear that you started small, it's so much better to get an understanding of how everything works before running your whole collection through. If you have any problems or need any help be sure to let us know.

Also - if you or anyone else is interested in purchasing a license for both platforms, we will add you to our free lifetime updates list if you do so.

    Cheers,
    Chad P

I use mixed in key always. It is excellent.

However, I have never got it to write the key into anything other than the track name. Can it write the key into the key section of a track so it appears in the key column of TPro?

Absolutely. Check in the preferences menu (Personalize on Windows) to enable this option. You'll have to rescan your tracks to get the change to take effect.

Sp let me get this straight before I purchase this software..

The best order in which to do things is:

1 - Scan tunes with MIK
    2 - Import into iTunes
3 - Then Import from iTunes into TSP

Superb, I will use this. Learn so much from this forum.

I use MIK 3.1. Is there any point upgrading to the most recent software?

The main feature upgrade was in collections management. Tracks can now be added into multiple collections, and we added the ability to tag your files within MIK for easier locating. The improved key detection algorithm was incorporated into 3.1, so the upgrade is pretty much optional.

i've always been a faithful user of mixed-in-key for quite awhile but the article in djtechtools about the comparison of several key-tagging software sort of makes me think, is it true what they said? according to the article only 30% of the results yielded by mixed in key is accurate, another 30% is compatible and the rest is... Wrong?

Chad please tell me that they made a mistake in that article!

I think with software like this is that its best to use it only as a guide to quickly help you choose which track to play next. However, you should not become a slave to this - if MIK says it should sound right but to your ears, it doesn't, then dont play it ;)

The only gripe I have with MIK is that it can't analyze FLAC files. Or has this now been resolved with the latest update?
