As per this thread http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86492 is there a way a 'continuous play' (Like the 'Single/ Continue' button on Rackmount CD Players) button could be added for all four decks - basically it would play all songs in a directory in a continous fashion.

Handy for playing continous albums eg ambient/ classical things where the whole LP is one continuous piece.

Im not sure why it needs to be for 4 decks.
Cruise mode will autoplay a playlist. This doent need to be 4 decks does it?
Yes it will stop at the end of the playlist but thats where Traktor has the edge on CD players . The Playlist can be 20 hours long if you want it to be.

I dont have playlists set up for any of my music - thats the problm. Oddly I find if I set in prefs 'load next track' to on and 'stop when track is finished' it works ok but still with an annoying gap. :(

I dont understand then. Where do you want Traktor to load the tracks from if you dont have a playlist

Do you want a random thing like that in iTunes.
This randomise feature has been requested before and to honest got absolutely hammered due to its 'non dj' application.

I suggest making a playlist and using Cruise. I dont see the problem with this mate.

I load my tracks from the 'Explorer view' on the left. I do not use playlists at all. I do not need a randomise feature. I just need it to play all files in order from a particular directory (As it appears to do at the moment) but gaplessly.

Karlos - check out the referenced thread for more info

This could be resolved with a refinement to the Cruise mode, whereby a fade out marker could be set to 'cut' which would immediately bang the next track in. Then you'd set your markers at the end of the first track and then at the start of the next. I think there is a feature request for that already.

Yes, that would be fine - its not something thats needed often, but is essential when its needed :) although setting markers etc might be cumbersome - is there a way Traktor could just restart each sequential track in the same deck with no lag?

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92EiJURGEyQ&fmt=18"]YouTube - traktor[/ame]

this kind of illustrates my problem - traktor here is set to play from a directory, not 'collection' and is set to

stop playing at end of track = off
load only into stopped deck = off
load next at end of track = on

traktor continuously plays 'klf - chill out' but you get annoying gaps in between the pieces

Thats because you are loading into one deck . How can Traktor play and and load into the same deck .

You must use 2 decks. It isnt iTunes (obviously) but it seems that thats how you want it to behave.

Also you are asking Traktor to play seemless music that isnt part of the collection ?
I am totally failing to see this problem.
Traktor has a 'Collection' . This is what you need to use . Make a playlist and use 'Cruise' and if needed use fade in/out points.

iTunes will play a mixed album seamlessly but then thats what its meant for. I very much doubt that anyone in NI development thought "how can we make Traktor play an album seamlessly"

sorry mate , i just dont see the need. Especially as this is DJ program not an entertainments and media player.

Whyever not? Rackmount CD players offer 'continuous play' modes, so does vinyl (if there are no gaps between the tracks), why not Traktor?

I don't want Traktor to behave like Itunes. All I want is the functionality to allow tracks that are part of a continuous piece (eg classical, ambient etc) play on ocassionaly.

Far too cumbersome for my needs. There is no good reason a 'continuous play' mode couldnt be implemented in Traktor. I also do not want fade in/ out points as the transitions between the pieces are supposed to be exact - not have a fade-in or a fade-out.

Thats fine, you not seeing the problem, which is not to say it doesn't exist. Any DJ will ***ocasionally*** want from time to time to let the next track play ***if*** it is a continuous piece, as it were. (Very, very common with ambient/ classical etc music - ie to have several tracks continuously joined to form one piece.)

I could just use Quicktime/ WMP etc, but I dont see the point in doing this if I have Traktor. A point to reiterate:

DJ CD players (And also vinyl, kind of by default) have gapless 'continuous play' modes (If the CD or vinyl is recorded as such) and these are professional pieces of kit, as much is Traktor is.

If you have a CD or vinyl that is a continuos piece do you have to go in and reprogram the CD player or turnatble, input a 'playlist' etc etc just to get it to play? Of course not, it just plays on (Vinyl) or you press the Single Track/ Continuous Play button. Why can't this functionality (Neccesity?) be added to Traktor?

You are playing individual MP3s not a cd or piece of vinyl.
CD players are playing from one disk. Traktor has to load a deck then load another. There is bound to be a gap unless you set fade in/out markers.
This why tracks have to be part of a playlist and in the collection.
Why do you not see this. You want Traktor to perform a function that is not designed to do unless you use the proper functions. It does not use Explorer in the way you want.
Even iTunes has to have a collection xml to play tracks from folders on the laptop and even then it plays them from a cd directly or from a playlist.

You want a solution but you wont accept the answer.

Your comparison of Traktor to a cd player in this instance is odd.

What you are asking Traktor to do is play 'someone elses' mix cd in Traktor.
I completely see your point but i fail to see why any DJ would want to play an album of mixed music made by another artist in Traktor.

And you keep saying 'one continuous piece of music' and cd players play on 'continuos mode' and i know this.
It isnt 'one continuous piece of music' because the cd has separate tracks that have been mastered with 0 second gaps (just like iTunes)

How on earth is Traktor meant to know that 2 pieces of music should be played seamlessly.

The point you make about having Win Amp to do this is a good point.
Trying to use Traktor to do this make no sense to me. I dont know why you want Traktor to do this when Win Amp does it.

Traktor HAS to use the collection and playlists to perform most of its features. That is how it works.
I dont understand why you are not willing to use Traktors Collection and Playlist features.

Youre either not reading my post or youre simply misunderstanding - either way its probably best if you ignore the posts in this topic. I will reiterate this however: I work mostly with WAVs, not MP3s which are difficult to tag (I also dont have the time in general to do playlists)

As for your accusation "What you are asking Traktor to do is play 'someone elses' mix cd in Traktor." that is NOT THE CASE I just want functionality that, in occasional instances where several tracks form one piece (Common in ambient and classical etc). They will play sequentially (As for which order, just as thy do at the moment without a playlist - alphabetically)

Your point about how Traktor "meant to know that 2 pieces of music should be played seamlessly." it isnt-

Most MP3s and WAVs, when ripped from Audio CD will include the gap inbetween tracks as part of the original file OR will simply end abruptly (If they are meant to play gaplessly)

Without wanting to appear rude, Karlos, you are not understanding the point im trying to make, and I dont find satisfactory the solutions you offer (of which im already aware) so I must ask if theres any need for you to keep posting in this thread...?

Of course im understanding your point. This is why i am able to give you the solution which is to use the Collection and Playlist.

You are not willing to accept that as the solution.

Im not 'accussing you' of anything. Your video shows you playing a KLF compilation cd ..! Im not aware of too many DJs that play other peoples compilations and maybe this why the feature you seek is not available.

I cant stress how much i understand what you want to do. You dont need to keep saying 'continous piece of music' or common with 'ambient music' . I am completely aware of what you want to do.
You want to play continuous compilation cds with Traktor.
It is not possible without some work within the Collection and Playlists.

It is a non DJ feature that you are asking for. That is why Traktor cannot perform it. You want Traktor to perform a task it was not designed to do. I repeat it isnt a Media player like iTunes.
I dont know why you dont have iTunes do it and switch to Traktor when you want to DJ.

The reverse would be asking Apple why you cant set loops in iTunes tracks.

Please do not tell me to ignore your posts just because you dont like the solution that i have offered.

A solution is to put the tracks into Mixmiester and create one long mixed file and play that in Traktor.

Well ok your splitting hairs now. The point remains the same its an album of works that are continuous like many albums. It could be the same with Pink Floyd or lots of albums that DJs generally dont play in their entirety.

Anyway you dont like my solution and you arent prepared to use Traktors collection and playlist features so ... ?

If the song(s) are meant to be played as one piece - why has the rip been sliced out as tracks rather than rip the whole "piece" as a single track? If you want gapless, I honestly think you should rip the whole thing as gapless...

'Cos I ripped it from a CD and this particular version of the CD was indexed per 'piece'

The 'view by directory not collection' -> 'cruise' -> both channels playing at the same time works, and is the best workaround available (If a bit of a PITA) :)

Karlos apologies if I came across a bit of a knob ;) , I think it still would be nice to have them play from the same deck cpntinually via a 'continuous play' switch... oh well maybe in the future
