    Hi,

Whenever I want to assign a controller number to a knob or whatever, I find myself wondering which controller numbers I've already used. Is there any easy way to find that out? I'm using the synth rack. Would it be better to add REAKTOR instruments in the fx bin?

Does SONAR 4 or 5 make this any easier?

    Thanks,
    Bill

are you assigning MIDI controller numbers via your hardware, or just arbitrary numbers to be used in software? if you are talking about hardware, do what i did, and bite the bullet and find out all the controllers numbers and write them down - either look in the manual, or keep midi-learning with each controller and jot down the controller #.

Or take it one step farther and start assigning the same controllers to control the same things every time; for example controller #3 is always filter cutoff. Once you get in that habit, life becomes much easier.

By the way, Daniel, did you notice that was post 1234 for you?

Thanks - I was talking about assigning arbitrary numbers for use in software. Guess I just have to spend a while assigning the numbers and maybe keep a record of them somewhere. It would be nice if the software could present you with this information, and especially warn you if you assign a number that's already in use!

    It'll take me a while to get to post #1234 --- ;)

    Thanks again,
    Bill

ableton live does this, except it wot let you have the same controller automating multiple assignments (using Live's MIDI learn) - i personally wish you could change the behavior in the preferences, but thats a minor complaint.

jotting down notes while doing technical stuff like this is never a bad idea - just make a textfile, or real paper/pen. in Reaktor, when building, i do this via a text module, so everytime i start up again for the first time of the daym i have some idea what i was thinking the night before.
