It seems that even NI are no longer supporting their latest copy protection “scheme”. Last week I had to take my Toshiba laptop in to be fixed due to the Firewire port not functioning. They replaced the motherboard under warranty and I had to reinstall everything including Kontakt. It seems that reinstalling on the same machine with a new motherboard has counted as 2 authorisations. I need to install Kontakt 1.5 on my studio machine as well and received and “authorization error” when trying do so. I “simply emailed”register@native-instruments.com as instructed in above mentioned email 4 days ago and as such have received no reply. I have tried resending a few times in subsequent days and still no reply. This is a disgrace In a few months time I will be completely upgrading the studio machine as well, I dread the problems of authorizing the software I paid for then as well.

I emailed Tina Jaenicke 2 days ago at NI sales dept, who has in the past been very helpful, and in fact the only person to EVER reply to a support email from NI (even though it's not her department!). Tina said she forwarded the email to the register@native-instruments.de address as well, so it's not a problem of them not reciving it.

I feel like I have been robbed and not allowed to authorise software I paid for in a timely fashion. I doubt the pirate version users have to suffer these inconveiniences!

If NI don't have the support staff to support their software they need to hire more people or stop releasing new stuff until they can properly deal with the customers who have already handed over their money.

Well, this point is discussed here since months - as long as the OSX/1.5 debacle goes on here.

Yes NI seems to be eager to show that the marketing rule of the importance of satisfied customers who spend more money is a joke and that it is easier to get thousands of new customers.

    It is sad, sad, sad!

In response to a request I sent to NI last week requesting another authorization because I had made some system changes, the reply with the new authorization included the comment:

"Next week we will start a new registration system, where the users can edit their own authorizations and everything will hopefully be much more convenient."

    Hmmm....

Well, I (and many others) kept on warning before this infamous upgrade. Nobody believed me, that C/R would become a nightmare. Now all upgraders have C/R, and now all upgraders have their nightmare.

I'll stay with Kontakt 1.2 as long as NI holds on to this damned protection system.

I agree, do not hand over any money to NI until they have a working copy protection system, you know, like the one they just ditched for this nightmare!

We believed you Air Rider, but even if we did, so what? The scheme still would have been implemented. There were more than enough opponents to the new scheme. This is a rather sad state we're all in now aren't we? :)

Akirasan, if nobody would buy this update, NI would be forced to think it over. But many users suffer from the mania, to upgrade each and everything, before thinking if an upgrade is really necessary.

And to be honest, there is no really important feature within this upgrade, that we can't live without. Even more, there are still far more important features missing:

    - easy one-key instrument browsing (just cursor up/down!!)
    - copy groups from instr to instr
    - copy group parameters to an other group
    - mute/unmute groups (for editing layered groups)
    - transposing groups/instr (add. to tuning)
    - smoother release tail fade of the ADSR

(hopelessly repeating this over and over again ...)

Until then, V1.2 just works fine and stable, and it doesn't need C/R protection. It's also funny, that many 1.5 upgraders go back to 1.2, because of all the troubles and bugs introduced with the new version.

    So why upgrade?

Well, this is pratical for Windows users - we MacUsers had the choice between having spend a lot of money for a product that we cannot use (because it only supports OS9) and a version we cannot use because CP is all f***** up.
We just wanted to use the software we paid for with our systems. So we paid another few bucks just to get treaded as software pirates.

In the end you are right - it does not matter what is the reason why you cannot use a plugin!

    Best
