    Hi

I've searched but maybe I'm not putting the right terms in the search! Complete newbie to Maschine, but used to hardware sequencing

Basically, I have a drum pattern on group A - kick, snare, hit hats, tom's etc.

Suppose I want to have exactly the same pattern but want to add a shaker, or lets say I want to bring some other instrument it

What's the best way of doing this? Is this 'Group' based, or it is 'Scene' based?

I'm really confused - I thought it would be simple to have one pattern with just a 4/4 kick running for lets say 16 bars, then copy that and add a snare, copy that, then add hi hats etc etc etc - so you can play each pattern in turn, building the track up?

    cheers :S

    Tried searching your user manual?
Scenes contain the sequencer data for all 8 groups of patterns. Each of the 8 groups can play one pattern at a time.
    Try duplicate.

OK, so lets say I duplicate group A to group B, but I want to put a kick in the 'duplicated' pattern on Group B, so when I hit the Group A button I get the original pattern, and when I hit the Group B pattern, I get the extra kick too?

I've copied and pasted exactly as above - but all I get is both patterns playing at the same time, doubling up.....no extra kick on B.

    ?

you don't want to copy the group, you want to copy the pattern and keep it in the same group just adding a kick.

I do most of my copying with a mouse so I can't really help you too much but check out the hardware reference guide

bingo, perfect that's what I wanted to know! So I copy the pattern to another scene within the same group?

    yes, press Pattern + Dupl

Hell that's easy enough, I always used a mouse for that? Haha, I learned something too.

now i tell you another secret: just add the shakers and then, when you're done, hit shift + pad4 ("split"). There you got your new pattern out of the box and preserved the old one.

i really do suggest reading the manual, it helps... *sigh* ;)

    reference manual page 122:

    6.2.5 Compare/Split
This function allows you to compare a selected pattern with its previous state, for example if
you have added or edited events. This is an easy way to create variations or to compare two
versions of a pattern. If you edit a pattern, the pattern is marked with an asterisk. This means that this pattern change is temporarily saved in a buffer and can be compared with the original
state via SHIFT + pad 3. If you select another pattern or leave the pattern mode, the latest
state of the pattern will be stored, the pattern slot will no longer show the asterisk.
To switch between the edited pattern and its original state, press SHIFT + pad 3 (COMPARE).
If you want to keep both, the new version and the old version, you can copy the edited version
to the next pattern by pressing SHIFT + pad 4 (SPLIT).

Once you're familiar with it, you will use nothing else.

    Creating Song or Scene

I not sure if i understand this correct, I have a pattern in group A "Pattern 1" i would like to copy to group A " Pattern 2" but would like to mute out some sounds how is that done or can it be done?

I FIGURED IT OUT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE MANUALLY DELETE OUT SECTIONS OF YOUR PATTERN AFTER YOU COPY THE PATTERN. Atleast this is what I am doing , Also not sure why but i am only able to delete the notes from a sound in a pattern in keyboard mode

Just mute the sounds and use the SPLIT function explained in the post right above yours.

    Mute using patterns "split"

The MUTE FUNCTION (MUTE+ Pad Sound) carries over to the "SPLIT" and 'Source" Pattern. Both are MUTED.

USING THE MUTE FEATURE ONLY (MUTE+PAD)

Can some please post step by steps on how to MUTE sounds copied from a previous pattern to a new pattern by using ONLY the MUTE function if possible

NOTE: I CAN MANUALY ERASE the notes, but this can not be the only way

I have the read the manual and continue to do so.
I have looked at tutorials and will continue to look.
Tried a couple variations too, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Alright heres what you do. You save patterns in advance. Then you load them up in empty groups.

Highlight them, ctrl+c, move to your sound where you want the other sound's midi note pattern that you just copied to paste to, ctrl+v.

    1. Have a pattern or melody that you know fits somewhere that sounds nice

    2. Go to an empty group

    3. Right click on the 1 thats next to the Group tab and some directional buttons.

    4. Open your pattern.

    5. Highlight the notes.

    6. Press Ctrl+C.

    7. Clear any notes on the sound where you want your copied notes to go.

    8. Press Ctrl+V.

I'm pretty sure that I saw being discussed here that it that Maschine cannot record Mute or Solo. Manually erasing notes is it unless anyone wants to correct me.

That is correct. There is no mute/solo automation. You have to manually clear the notes on the pads you don't want or erase them in real time.

Easiest workflow to copy a pattern and delete multiple parts:

First press and hold duplicate and make sure the + event is engaged (button 2 above left lcd) Once you do this it will stay that way.

Press pattern and button 3 for duplicate.
Press and hold select and make sure it is on events (button 2)
Hold select and press the pads you want to delete to select all notes on those pads.
    Shift + clear.
