Why the new font style in 1.5? Why keep the old font in the rack section, but change the font in the browser? It doesn't look like one program anymore, but more like a frankenstein type thing. Before I even bought kontakt, I associated the program with that cool font in particular (no lie).

I understand people had a hard time seeing the file names in the old font, but then don't they still have a hard time seeing all the buttons/parameters in 1.5 (as they still use the old font)?

I love the slick, UNIFORM, and badass look of Kontakt 1.2. It is by far my favorite instrument and I enjoy being in its presence! Not so with 1.5. It feels so amateurish to me. Don't tell me I'm the only one!

(I've basically been a brat and posted this repeatedly, so apologies if you think I'm a troll. You can put me on the ignore list if you like :))

    haha

not exactly what i was looking for, but...OKAY!!!

they should have options for both a "big new" AND "small old" fonts. as long as ALL the fonts in both the browser rack remain consistent, whether in either mode.

please make kontakt pretty again. i will risk having poor eyesite for it. hehehehehehe

(obviously, i don't seem to ever work at work.)

I agree. I liked it the way it was. I also prefered the old 1.0 Kontakt logo. The GUI is starting to look like a dogs dinner now ;)

Who cares if it looks cool? It's impossible to read and I just hate it.

I second that one... Great sampler, hard to use without a microscope attached to the screen.
There's a lot to wish for regarding the GUI of Kontakt. Sure, it looks cool, but all the fonts are too small even at low resolutions and especially when using CRT monitors.
The colour coding of modules is another issue, instead of using "48 shades of green", why not use differerent colours or different looks for the separate modules so that a complex program is easier to work with?
Also, the new "make everything red" thing is extremely annoying, because all the buttons are so small that one often miss them and make the whole module red instead.

These might be thought of as minor issues compared to all the power of Kontakt, but for those of us that spend a lot of time editing programs, they are not.

The addition of a large font option for the browser is great. More of that please in the rest of the GUI :)

I like the way programs such as Opera and Sonar have skinnable interfaces. It is such an excellent feature and it contributes to a much better sense of inimacy with the application. You can make it look how you want it to look which is fantastic.

i know kontakt sounds good, is powerful, and has an excellent workflow. it's my favorite instrument. i just don't like the way it now looks, which is also important to me when using music software. you know how guitarists feel about their one precious "ax?" or how keyboard players love the feel of a certain set of keys? well, so did i, until 1.5 came along. the gui has a lot to do with the "feel" of software instruments.

i guess the reason i'm complaining, is that the functionality of kontakt is already great for me. i simply do not understand why they would dress kontakt up in a prada blouse and kurt cobain's old ripped jeans. have the option to go either way, but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

i'm not against the idea of the new font. i think it's great that people like it. but couldn't they have done that without completely stripping away the elegance of the old version (the one i fell in love with)?

I don't think having a different font in the browser is a bad move or disturbs the general look of Kontakt too much, but it's of course a matter of taste. However, my guess is that they are now using a system font for the browser (and earlier were using bitmaps for the font). This takes some load off the CPU and speeds up browsing on slower systems.

I think the biggest dog's dinner is the new Audio/MIDI setup form. What could they have been thinking?

Personally, I prefer the old fonts too. The new ones look a bit mis-matched.

things must be getting better when all we can complain about is the font used in the browser ;-)

i promise i won't bump this thread again.

but having looked at my copy of kompakt, it has the cool look of the old kontakt. but kompakt's easier to read, because the font colors are different than kontakt's old ones. couldn't something like this be done?

it's honestly not as fun working in that sloppy interface (including that garish red rectangle!) i'm willing to bet that the gui designers and advertising/marketing team agree with me.

frankly i think the whole font/GUI issue is
insignificant compared to the bugs in basic functionality (GIGA conversion, DFD buffer etc)
but since we're on the subject. . .

do the developers actually ever see Kontakt on OSX with a hirez lcd ? - i don't think so or they'd know what we're talking about. With the scalable postscript driven graphics available on OSX there really is no excuse for the tiny bit-mapped fonts etc. In my humble opinion it looks like an Atari ST computer game from the 1980s. The browser font option is welcome but it's a temporary bodge and as others have pointed out if the mini font is too small for the browser it's too small everwhere else too

but please NI fix the other stuff first so i won't have to look for another OSX sampler.

I totally agree that bugs should be the highest priority, but at the same time I think it's important to bring all matters to attention and also I don't think NI schedules their days according to our posts... :)

    Cheers,
