don't know exactly what's your expectation for doing so, but i'd recommend you to let itunes manage your collection automatically and forget about file locations. spend your time only in having proper tags!

in the end, the file name does not matter. (IMO) ;)

Agreed. I spent a whole summer about 5years ago correcting file names and it was a real chore. Then i started using iTunes and just left it to the program to organise. It may have its haters but iTunes is vital for me.

im confused about the need for a mp3 program - traktor seems to have a sufficient tagging feature.

anyone care to share what they use itunes for?

I use iTunes for making playlists, lots of playlist in Folders that apply to the different Club nights i do. Also for Burning and making playlists for my own personal use.

If i did this in Trakor id have a Browser Tree that would be HUGE and messy.
I like my Traktor Browser Tree to show only the playlists that are used on any particular night.

I've done the tour for Coverscout and it does support Discogs. If you watch the video on this page, about half way through it demos a feature called web search. It shows it going to the Discogs websites

I use itunes to manage a huge music collection database, 37000 songs and growing. I don't use all this music in traktor, as you may imagine..

It lets me sort my music in playlists (manual and automatic ones), it keeps the files tidy, helps me keep track of duplicates, and has a pretty good tagging interface which is the center of the organizing features. adding new, or modifying existing music is pretty quick, easy and intuitive once you get the workflow.

it has two main options to do so:

"Copy files to Itunes Music folder when adding to library"
When i have a new file to add to the collection, i just play it in itunes and it copies it to the itunes folder.

    "Keep Itunes Music folder organized"
Every file you add to the library, is placed into the corresponding artist/album folder within itunes music folder. Or compilations folder, in case you mark a various artists album as this.

it is somehow limited in terms of amount of editable tag fields, but at last, it has fairly enough fields to manage any collection properly.

Th database itself could be even quicker if another 'engine' was used instead of xml, which becomes a little slow with big collections with many smart playlists updated in real time.

    How about Beatport?

I supose that if NI & Beatport are partners.....Beatport will start to give the cover art of the tracks that one buys (and has bought...)?

Anybody from NI can give light on this issue?

Would be really great to be able to access the cover art directly (as is posible in other music-vending-portals)...

I use Mp3 Tag (link) and it works fantastic if you already have all the cover art files in your directories.

    Here's what you do:

    01. Drag your collection directory in the main window of Mp3 Tag
    02. Select your collection & click on "Convert" and then "Actions".
    03. Click on the icon to create a new action-preset & name the preset (I named mine "Batch_Embed_Cover_Art").
    04. In the following window you click on the icon to add an action to your preset and you choose "Embed Cover Art into MP3 Files".
    05. I the next window you have fill in the default cover art filename. I always use "folder.jpg" because other programs like Foobar recognize that.
    06. Then check your newly created action & click on "OK".

Now the program will embed all the "folder.jpg" files into your mp3's correctly.

Yeah id like to see the Mac version of Tune Up.
Cover Scout 3 is only Leopard compatible (i use Tiger until Snow comes out) and Cover Scout 2 is soooo very slow its not worth using.

Looking forward to Beatport getting their **** together and embedding all the data for us.

Why don't they just update their artist submission requirements to include artwork, key, BPM, etc?

Really considering the partnership with NI, you'd also expect an embedded stripe and pre done beat grids as well?

    ...I can dream :)

    Artwork Problem

Not Sure whether this should go here or in the Technical Area but I seem to have a problem.

All my artwork was embedded into my mp3 collection (c39000).

I ran Traktor PRO and pointed the program to my itunes xml file and the program proceeded to import and analyse the tracks. Each track was successfully analysed and the artwork appears in Traktor for every single track.

However the problem arose next time I went into Itunes and everytime I click on a track the itunes the artwork disappears?

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

And further to this is there a way to export the artwork from Traktor?

Bonty I would definitely put this in Technical and file it with support.

Im having very mixed results with artwork both in Pro and iTunes.
Not convinced that its a major waste of time at the moment.

Losing 39000 covers is not good.

I know that, ok, artwork added in Pro does not show in iTunes but theres just no consistency here at all.

Hi - I have now worked out that the problem.

The artwork is lost if genre is blank and as i dont use genre the artwork was lost when the BPM was written to the MP3 tag.

    Clearly this is a bug
