It depends where the bug was. It sounds like timecode was most affected so this is why they would make this statement.

It doesn't do any harm to download and apply the update once it is available,

great news! thanks for the upcoming update/hotfix!

this isnt too important (kinda),but will they explain what the issue was/why the cpu would bunk up with timecode?..wondering,cause im a 4 deck/timecode user.

Is there anyway for us who are affected to help test this patch out? :)

OK from the Assembled Huddled Mac Massses I need a couple of Testers. This is not an official test or anything but I want to prove something I discovered last weekend and verified last night.

Here the deal. I need to hear from people running on a mac that are having Timecode problems or have problems with Pops Clicks and Dropouts. This is a simple fix that simply involves creating a brand new user account. Load nothing at startup and run Traktor in the bare new user environment. Let me know what your results look like.

My McBook Pro worked great until about 3 weeks ago and I was having no problems with dropouts then after having a problem where none of my NI gear was being detected in the O/S I could reproduce all of the same problems people were reporting here. Last weekend on a whim I created a new user account that had zero addons starting at login, and just like that I got near perfect operation. I tested on a second system that was having problems last night and it too cleaned up immediately.

What I want to do now is verify with others that this solution works with others. All I did was to create a new user account in system preferences (I made mine an Admin) turned on quick user switching and switched to that user. Without doing anything else I ran Traktor and tested the system. I've run Timecode Hard and found the system worked beautifully. The problem with FX Dropouts when FX is enabled still lives on but that can be worked around.

Please test it out and let me know your results. I'm trying to find out what is causing the problem in my regular user account and will report back when I have more details. In the meantime, Two for two fixed is a good result. Lets see if we can boost the odds.

What is important is that when you test is to NOT load any utilities or addons before testing in your new account so we can be sure we can find performance sinks.

    Hello.

    MacBook Pro 5.3
    Mac OS 10.6.7
    Audio 8 Dj
    Time Code Vinyl

    Without creating a new account.

    Everything works fine, except:
"The problem with FX Dropouts when FX is enabled still lives on but that can be worked around."

    p.s. I use the old driver (2.3.14)
With the new driver, the error on the error.

It worked but when I imported the folder Traktor 2.0.1 from Documents to the new account and started Traktor he went CPU red again.

@Mastiksoul. That is good info to have! In the 4 success cases I had, all were cases where we created a brand new folder set including Settings Stripes Transients and Traktor settings.xml. In each case I did not reuse the existing the existing data from another user but started fresh. Could you run a test where you do the same? We are starting to narrow down causes and suspects here.

    Hi Phil,

Same thing here, not even my X1 imported settings worked.
Had this issue with my X1 that when ever I pressed CUE my settings changed from internal to scratch.
So I created a new user on my mac and done all the settings from scratch(including my two X1) and everything just worked good as gold.

Just wonder how NI could let this pass unnoticed and not even tell there costumers of this issue.
Because every one I know imported settings had this issue, and I honestly don't believe that none of NI staff had encounter this issue when testing.

Any way thanks for the tip on new user account.

    Best

have you tried to set 2 time codes to control 4 decks ? if so does it cure the cpu redline ?

Yes finally got to that yesterday and I can confirm that issue is NOT addressed by the creation of a clean dedicated user account. To be honest I not expecting it to corrected by this. A fix for this operation will need to come from NI, I expect.

OH so there are two points to comment on here.

First is the pass un-noticed. As testers for the product we do find situations where performance is not what we expect and we do report it. When we get close to release the tester focus shifts to performance reliability and serious bugs If you have a pool of 50 active test users and only 1 user reports a performance problem despite all users testing the same thing whats your first thought? If you are a QA engineer it going to be what is different about this setup? Now given the thousands and thousands of pieces of software out there for windows and MAC who is going to able to document the possibly negative interaction between all the pieces of software that combine to produce a poor performing Traktor system. I would bet the base QA systems used at NI are clean pristine Base O/S images with no utilities installed at all and were I running the QA effort I would mandate it. I don't want to waste valuable QA time chasing down poor performance caused by shareware or other software widgets. The Beta test team has systems where day to day software is installed alongside Traktor to provide some coverage but its simply NOT possible for the testing to cover all the utilities and 20 other users have on their systems. I'm not passing judgement on you here so please don't take it badly it not intended to be a dump but rather an example... I have seen several cases where users have reported performance issues that were blamed on Traktor that turned out to be hardware O/S configuration or issues, bad utilities other software despite bewing assured their systems were pristine I found old unused utilities loading that people had forgtten about and clean improved performance. At other times we found that once traktor git released there were indeed issues we did not see in test or did not see clearly. These things do get fixed. Now in your case what this comes down to is NOT a pure Traktor issue. I've said it before and I'll say it again this in my experience feels like Traktor is the Victim here it contributes to it ailment by reasonably requiring things of the system that no other application does. anything that other software does that causes the system to perform poorly WILL impact Traktor. Anything that Traktor does that performs poorly internally will impact Traktor's output. Im not saying that Traktor is without faultbut on the face of it if your system performs badly using your standard desktop with all the bells and whistles and tools enabled, but performs beautifully when you load it in a clean profile with no bell whistles or tools, where do you start looking? So here are todays stats 8 success, 1 no improvement. In the no improvement case I see utilities loaded in the user process space applications running in the background on another user and the settings files in fact were copied from the user profile where the original problems were seen despite being assured they were not, so for the moment until we get things straightened out there I'm not willing to call fail on the number 9 system yet.

I cannot speak to the setup for the NI QA systems. For my test systems, (three of four of them) I imported my collection and settings from Earlier versions of Traktor. On my Mac (imported) everything worked beautifully until about 2 weeks ago when I setup to play I could not get OSX to find any NI device at all despite rebooting, trying one device at a time, then finally turning everything off and left it off for several mins then began to bring it all up one device at a time and magically I started to get things initializing again, this time though performance was awful. I played the set on S4 that night and next day started chasing down the cause. I finally resorted to creating a new user profile and here we are... I can't speak to whether settings file import problems were seen during test. I simply don't recall. I can say though my Traktor 2 profile was a copy of my Traktor 1 profile. It worked great until I had the detection problems and then it sucked. I compared the settings file to a backup taken the day before and the two files are only different in their touch time, the contents are identical and both cause Traktor to perform poorly. Whatever happened it is outside of Traktor settings, but creating a new Traktor settings fille does fix the problem my main user profile now experiences.

    @Phil

so from what I gather, running 2 timecodes on 4 decks is a pure traktor problem ? I mean i have a pc and i reformatted everything and loaded nothing more than traktor and optimized my pc fully and all was fine except for the cpu spikes and sound dropouts from the use of 2 timecodes using 4 decks. The reason I am still wondering is because we have almost no real news about the hotfix. Once we do get the hotfix maybe the discussions will change.

PhilL: Do you still have he damaged files in your user account? It might be worth it to have Dev see if they were corrupted by Traktor or HD issues like bad blocks.
