Hey Majikaz, sorry to hear about the trouble you are having at the moment. I have been running the S8 on my windows machine since 2.7.3 with nothing at all like the problems you are seeing or any audio issues to speak of. You can see the specs of my HP in my signature which I have very specifically optimised for Traktor use only. Although it differs from your computer by having an Intel processor, it seems that Serato users tend to have more issues with AMD than Traktor users as Serato does not support AMD. I have also set up an old dual core Toshiba running windows 7, for testing purposes only, which does have an AMD processor and also able to run the S8. I set the old Toshiba up because I had a very annoying graphic glitch on the HP when I updated to the 2.7.4 & 2.7.5 betas which I reported on both occasions and also opened a ticket with NI. You can read about that here: http://www.native-instruments.com/f...s-visually-whilst-browsing-for-tracks.235401/ and here: http://www.native-instruments.com/f...lst-browsing-for-tracks-in-2-7-5-beta.248095/ This seems to be isolated to my HP machine as NI said they could not reproduce the glitch and no other users reported seeing this in either of the above threads I started. Apart from this strange glitch, which I'm sure I will find a solution for myself in time, I have no problems running 4-5 hour sets on windows so it is possible with a little work. If there is any further information I can help you with feel free to ask.

    Hi Floydb,

    Thank for the reply.

I have an old intel based laptop(well 2 years old) which can keep traktor running whilst the S8 is connected but doing anything other than looking at the screen it freezes or load is at 100% and cannot load up a second track and forget about any FX...

This to me was a test for my own sanity atm I have been at this problem since my first post and still no luck. I have dialed the settings in on my AMD audio system the best I can which gives me about 2-5mins of playtime before it freezes and dies.

I would like to ask about the Audio Device Control applet for controlling the latency settings, specifically for the USB buffer 1-4ms BEFORE a crash I have zero USB I/O errors and then during a glitch/crash the USB I/O Error count climbs until the Kontrol S8 restarts the screens. As I said prior I have a fairly decent system with plenty of headroom for my CPU/RAM/HDD (SSD)/USB2+3/PCIEx 3.0 X16/4K display over HDMI 1.4, etc..

I have turned off almost every process which is not system dependant, I have messed with prefetch, manually defragged, refreshed all my drivers to latest, tested inside various OS'es inside virtual machine and it STILL remains problematic. !

I have a question and something which I think you guys could answer or at least spread some light on my thinking process.
Would I benefit from offloading the digital audio processes from the onboard audio to a separate sound card. Its definitely cheaper than buying a new macbook and I suspect will help with the buffer issues/ latency (if this is indeed the case)

I have also read that OpenGL 2.1 or higher should be supported by the GPU (As below)
    http://www.native-instruments.com/e...ic-adapters-with-native-instruments-products/

In my case My GPU is R9 290x and via GLEW-v1.12.0 reports the following:-

    ---------------------------
    GLEW Extension Info
    ---------------------------

    GLEW version 1.12.0
    Reporting capabilities of pixelformat 7
Running on a AMD Radeon R9 200 Series from ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL version 4.4.13283 Compatibility Profile Context 14.501.1003.0 is supported
    ....
    GL_VERSION_2_1: OK
    ---------------
    glUniformMatrix2x3fv: OK
    glUniformMatrix2x4fv: OK
    glUniformMatrix3x2fv: OK
    glUniformMatrix3x4fv: OK
    glUniformMatrix4x2fv: OK
    glUniformMatrix4x3fv: OK

As expressed in my previous post I have tried tweaking all the settings I could think of both from in the OS and in the BIOS, whilst being as methodical as possible but still the problems persist.!

I suspect its to do with AM3+ cpu's as they were not included in the CPU family drop-down box when I submitted my initial Technical support request. perhaps socket AM3+ CPU's are an issue?

Also, I would like to know why I have not yet had any official word from the technical support ticket submitted to NI 3 days ago ?
And how to get ahold of the testing tools which were mentioned previously.

    [Ticket # 2015051110000531]

    Thanks

I've had the same problem it's with Intel video driver, my laptop from February 2012 Windows 7 Corei5 2nd generation Intel HD 3000, 8GB ram 128 GB SSD, what I've done to resolve problem. I downloaded the newest driver from intel website, driver is from May 2015 and also to stop crashing I've had to switch on aero, with aero switched off it was still crashing. The problem is Kontrol S8 needs Open GL 2.1 or newest to work it is even or their website, not on the forum.

    Official info.

Well I just spent a **** load of cash again to build a new system I have had a guts-full of messing around with what was my primary audio PC system. This is all new intel based crap I just purchased so if this dosen't work (I will find out in a couple of days time) I will RMA this S8 and return my new build system items too. I have tried EVERYTHING conceivable to get this sucker to work properly but it just will NOT play ball AMD and S8 suck..

Also something which I find pathetic is that nobody from NI team have even attempted to contact me regarding this issue. I feel like a cheap **** product beta tester.

Regarding the Open_GL 2.1 requirements: Yes it is on the KB section I was merely clarifying to the forum I have indeed check and I am trying to be pro-active in resolving this issue I suspect most end-users who encounter problems like this either can't be bothered to try and make it work and RMA it from the get go OR just don't have the knowledge to carry out tests of their own to try resolve the problem.

Either way if it means me building a new machine for this then so be it. Im not an mac/intel fan-boy one bit and is my first intel cpu/platform I have built for myself so as they say "In for a penny, in for a pound" lets see where this takes us!

    --edit

On another note this will give the wife something else to moan about now too. Cheers NI :)

    DPC Latency Spikes USBPORT.SYS

    Hi guys,

just a quick heads up to all who are having issues with the S8 and Traktor v2.7.x ~ v2.8.1.

Download the LatencyMon tool (CNET Downloads) this will help with Identifying the culprit drivers/process(es) of the high ISR's, DPC's and Hard pagefaults.

Below shows where all the faults stem from on my system and a brief explanation about the meaning of the terms used:-

    DPC's:- USBPORT.SYS - USB 1.1 & 2.0 Port Driver, Microsoft Corporation

Process with highest pagefault count: ccc.exe (Catalyst Graphics)

Highest ISR routine execution time (µs): 279.25950
Driver with highest ISR routine execution time: ataport.SYS - ATAPI Driver Extension, Microsoft Corporation

Highest reported total ISR routine time (%): 0.425634
Driver with highest ISR total time: USBPORT.SYS - USB 1.1 & 2.0 Port Driver, Microsoft Corporation

Interrupt service routines are routines installed by the OS and device drivers that execute in response to a hardware interrupt signal.

DPC routines are part of the interrupt servicing dispatch mechanism and disable the possibility for a process to utilize the CPU while it is interrupted until the DPC has finished execution.

Hard pagefaults are events that get triggered by making use of virtual memory that is not resident in RAM but backed by a memory mapped file on disk. The process of resolving the hard pagefault requires reading in the memory from disk while the process is interrupted and blocked from execution.

NOTE: some processes were hit by hard pagefaults. If these were programs producing audio, they are likely to interrupt the audio stream resulting in dropouts, clicks and pops. Check the Processes tab to see which programs were hit.

Here is a good thread to take a look over which includes another checklist of potential areas to look at fixing / upgrading.

I have still not yet received ANY kind of follow up back from either the Native Instruments Technical Support OR customer Support departments.

    Hope this helps.!

    Hey,

Still no reply from NI tech team. I have been forced to submitted a return request back to distributor of the S8. Maybe I just grab some other USB-HID DJ crap instead Im sure it can't be any worse than this S8.

I am waiting for my motherboard to arrive to test on the intel Z97 based system specifically built for this controller. BUT whichever comes first the RMA request or the motherboard so I can definitivly say its the kontrol S8 which is the problem (or not). Which is already above and beyond that of what any sane person would do in order to try and hold onto a product they purchased.

This whole saga is enough to drive anyone over the edge.

All S8 should come with a warning label:-

Buyers beware this can cause long lasting side effects, it can also cause the hemorrhage of cash, irritation, mood-swings, depression and insomnia and at times can and WILL freeze on you mid set. For Mac users you "should" be fine as your already rich enough to own a MAC so if our product malfunctions you can just go buy yourself another one although we cannot guarantee this and for windows users we have tossed a coin during the informal test phase of this controller to see which components we tested on so in all likelihood your PC setup may not work with this S8 device. So your **** out of luck. If you have a tendency to react badly during times of crisis this item is not for you.

We sometimes answer your support requests BUT our policy is decided daily based on the direction of the prevailing wind usually around at the time we have our morning coffee. If you DO NOT suffer with any mental conditions YOU WILL have one by the time this ordeal is over.

Common side effects include (but are not limited to) attention deficit disorder, anger management issues, the loose of empathy and the inability to communicate properly as by the time you get to sending us your support ticket you would have forgotten what your issue was concerning. However we do consider you a valued customer we care about you so much that we MAY allow one of our official distributors to contact us on your behalf to waste more time and invalidate your 14-day return rights.

Our product description is by no means representative and does not reflect our official line. We used the terms set out therein, as it was okayed by our legal department. We strongly believe in community which is why we kindly ask you direct your questions there as our support team may OR may not reply so we can get the community to do our jobs for us. So please beware all of the above can change at anytime We like to make "stuff" and just hope it works.

Hi I came on this forum to post my same problem that I'm having with traktor crashing upon startup with the S8 plugged in. For all the Intel IE5 users out there running Win 7 I've picked something out from the crash log that its the "Fault Module Name: ig4icd32.dll" that is causing the problem. What can we do to work around this issue? I've raised my ticket with support on May 7, the escalation is much appreciated.

    Hi Max,

just on initial glance the filename quoted above "ig4icd32.dll" could maybe be referencing the Integrated Graphics hence the ig part of the filename. but I can quite easily find out with some digging.

I have also tested this on a new build I done (http://imgur.com/5SOkbSY) which is based on the Z97 platform. And guess what??

    The problem is persistent.

I mean this is a brand new system, a totally clean install using all the latest Maximus VII Impact M/B BIOS updates,
X1 Intel 750 400GB PCI-e half-height MLC SSD (Swapped with my GPU and the M.2)
    M.2 2280 hyperX Predator 240GB
EVO 850 Pro X2 500GB raised card and blazing fast 16GB DDR3 Ram clocked in around the 2400mhz range.
I am using the onboard HD4600 intel "integrated Graphics" and its still gives me 5hit.

I am going to pull out the 750 and shove in one of my 295X cards to see if this has any effect. If that combination of Hardware fails I will throw in my 290X TRI-X GPU and if that fails I will put my old 7850 GPU. If the AMD cards don't play nice with the S8 / Traktor I will buy a 980GTX and test with some nvida/CUDA based gpu's.

I am planning on finding out if I have any issues even if I run on a Mac based OS too!
I made a custom ACPI DTP list for my hardware and used Unibeast/Clover to get Yosemite on but had some problems with the EFI/UEFI side of things. I got it to boot and working fine but couldn't detect the 750 partition. but I didn't like OSX that so I put MS win8.1 back on. So I know my hardware supports OSX but will concentrate on finding a fix for win based system before I start to play with OSX.

All this extra cost to get a controller working for a perfectly good system sitting beside this test build. This is a shambles I am totally & utterly disgusted with the inactivity of the support teams. My issue was raised the first few hours after receiving delivery of the S8. Ticket was submitted and posted here (page 3)

Only after I contacted the distributor for a RMA / return did someone contact me from NI. (obviously so I don't return the item NOT because they actually care a damn) Subsequently another prompt from myself to the distributor who I purchased this S8 from to kindly follow up on his initial request to NI from them prompted a second reply from NI this time asking for some Screenshots and some latencyMon results and the results from the Diagnostic tools.

There has been no follow up since 3-4 days back. So I have had a guts full and insisting for a return and am awaiting a reply. This whole saga has not only cost me Time and a great deal of "EXTRA" money but this has totally ruined my experience with a purchase like this.

As I said previously consumers are supposed to feel good about a purchase that's what makes us consumers?
This experience has been the equivalent of an extra full-time job to get this thing sorted ALL of which seems to be coming from me.

On the returns front apparently if you have purchased anything which includes software (such as a S8 WITH Traktor) you cannot get a refund, or at least its at their discretion and will impact your chances of a return. So please be aware if you decide to open up you shiny new toy only to find it doesn't work.

    Hi all

I posted my issue very early in this thread and I fixed it quite some time ago, I got a email notifying me of more messages added so I thought Id try and help out if I can. Some of my recommendations have already been mentioned so apologies for repeating some of them etc..

I got my S8 around launch and teething problems is an understatement! Even after I fixed the crash on launch issue, the program would still randomly crash. I would have never trusted it to play out live but now with the latest update being 64bit, it seems to have fixed the crashes, and I havent had one since I installed it the other week.

Anyway.. back to the crash on launch.

My laptop uses the Nvidia Optimus technology where it allow the graphics to switch from internal to dedicated graphics. Assuming you have the same tech in your windows pc and the latest drivers, the next step is to configure the Nvidia control panel and select Manage 3D Settings.. Select High-performance Nividia processor in the global settings tab..

The other tab you can specifically chose what programs use dedicated and which ones dont.. Ive also added tracktor to the list here too but Im not sure if that was necessary as the global settings probably take overall control etc..

Anyway, that should be it.. good luck!

    Hey Tom,

Ahh mate, I have tried every trick under the kitchen sink to get this to work. Even the info you kindly provided above in various combinations/configurations to try get this to work.

As mentioned in my previous post I even went out and purchased a hackintosh (capable) Z97 based system.. And then some!

Its been a fully kitted out build made up form derrivatives of a scan.co.uk Audio Workstation build which I used as the foundation for this platform.

So, another words basically picking up components of same spec/architecture/ratings, etc as a specifically targeted Build for audiophiles from a well respected PC components supplier (Scan.. I also referenced YOYO-Tech audio workstations too ;)

Anyway, I initially done a mac yosemite install/build but it wouldn't pick up my 750 MLC NVE SSD drive. which kind of was a bummer, I will try crack that nut another time as my main focus (UNTIL THE NI SUPPORT TEAM REPLY BACK TO ME!!!) is to get this S8 running without problem. So, to cut a long story short I ended up reverting my OS to win8.1 x64 pro.

But again this S8 fails both using the onboard Intel HD4600 gfx and also several variants of discrete AMD based GPUs. I am however in process of picking up a brand spanking new NViDIA gpu now. And i'm just shopping around as we speak.

I also RMA my original i5 cpu as it just didn't have the umff i wanted as HyperThreading was not there. I decided to grab the i7-4790k which will have the grunt to do some of the heavy lifting for any DAW apps I decide to use away from Traktor and it's also a fairly decent chip-to-boot for my Haswell LGA1150 H3 socket.

I also upped my RAM to this G Skill 2x 8GB PC3-19200 DDR3 kit I have seen that you can get fairly close timings with this at decent clocks compared to my corsair ones which I also returned ..

All-in-all I have fairly good certainty that its not my systems(s) which are the cause/culprit of these annoying Kontrol S8 crashes/Bugs but more so that ever I am almost 100% certain its a NI driver/firmware thing.

But I can know for definite when the GTX970 or 980 arrives in the next 48hrs and coming days.

I have for sure gone above and beyond what most sane people would do to resolve an issue. It's driving me kind of mad and I am determined to either prove definitively it's not an issue my side and hope NI can provide a fix in fairly short period of time.

^^ is sounding kind of tempting right about now !

Cheers Tom for your help on this with the valuablev advice. However...for those like myself who do not have the luxury of having nvidia or amd cards who only have what is onboard, this does not help.
