Here is a thing that bugs me quiet a lot because I get confused by all this knob pressing in live situations...: Lets say I play pattern1 in a group and now wanna create a new pattern on another slot quickly. So I have get to pattern mode, select a new (empty) pattern, leave pattern mode and then record using the pads. phewww...
What about this? Shouldn't there be a "record to empty pattern slot funciton"? or at least when I am in pattern mode and I hit record Maschine could let me hit my drum sounds without having to leave pattern mode first?!?! It's definitely finger breaking and mind aching if you do a lot of this stuff live...
Any idea how I could accelerate my process? Or maybe something I overread in the manual?

    Best,
    L.

Do you find holding PATTERN + a pad really that cumbersome? When you get used to it, it takes a split second.
If this was a feature, though, how would you tell Maschine that you don't want to record to the current Pattern, but that you want to record to a new Pattern? Some controller shortcut? Would it be fewer than two button pushes?

I do see where you're coming from, but unless I'm misunderstanding what you want, I think you just need to get used to pressing PATTERN+pad when you want to record a new Pattern.

However, having said that, having a feature that would record a new Pattern per pass to create "takes" would be welcome. You'd still have to enable it though.

    Thanks for your answer,

I just think for live performing and real fast creation of new patterns - and I never use preconceived material - the MPC workflow that the Maschine offers is apparently not the very best. I still love it but somehow it slows me down live. In this relation the Push concept is far better for my purpose but it lacks so many other cool things the Maschine has ;-)

This is often the case. One software/device/whatever won't offer all the things you want/need. A workman typically doesn't only have one tool in his/her toolbox though...

How might this be better for you and what you're trying to do though? Would an option to create a new Pattern instead of overdubbing the existing one work? As I said, though, you'd still have to engage this function.
Also, how is Live better with this?

Well, this is my personal opinion when I say "better". But the 64 grid on Push allows one to create variations much faster. When making variations via grid mode you don't need to enter "grid" button. You are already in there. On Maschine you need to first select the sound then go to grid mode, edit it, leave grid mode to select another sound, etc... On push you select a pad and the grid is already there on top of if.
Same with recording new patterns on the fly. It could be all inside one clip you just select another range inside the clip and program you new stuff and can always come back to your original bar/loop. All this is done without entering/leaving a certain mode. That's all I'm saying...
And yes, I am using both Push and maschine on stage as well as lots of other stuff ;-)

Hello you don´t have to leave grid mode just press select and then the pad with the sound you want to edit.
