    Hello,

I've tried to search the forums to find an answer or solution to my problem but sadly I didn't find anything that helped me (found a few other nice things though :D ).

My problem is, that the crossfader behaves rather strange - or at least it feels strange to me. When I play at deck A and have the crossfader on the left (therefore playing 100% of deck A) I hear deck A just fine. Same goes with deck B and having the crossfader 100% at the right side.

Now when I play two songs (deck A and B) and I move the crossfader to the middle, the sound gets louder. An easy way to test this is to put the same song on both decks, start them at the same time and then mess around with the crossfader.

This is something that really annoys me, since I always have to adjust the volume manually, which pretty much renders the crossfader useless. In every mix I have done so far, it is obnoxiously obvious when I'm moving the crossfader. I don't think that a crossfader should work that way :)

Is there any setting I can change to keep the volume at the same level, when two tracks are playing? (imho both decks should play with 50% of their volume when the crossfader is in the center position).

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    nifelan

try changing the smooth/sharp fader in the mixer part of the settings, that could do it

Unfortunately, that only changes the the crossfader curve. When I set it towards sharp, the problem is even worse because the volume suddenly makes a huge jump when I move the crossfader even slightly.

It's not fun to get into the reds even though you have balanced each song perfectly... :(

Edit: have a look at this picture. Can you spot where the crossfader was moved? The first part was with the crossfader set to "smooth", the second was "sharp". I believe this illustrates the problem quite nicely.

I used the Demo2 track, gain set on both decks to -6.6dB.

There's a monitor pfl/mix knob, you have to turn it do you hear only post fader (mix) sound or pre fader (cue) in your headphones. Default is 50/50. It is close to the master and monitor volume knobs

My problem has nothing to do with headphones. The problem is with the master output (and no, I'm not confusing Monitor with Master). I didn't even assign any audio device to Monitor for these tests.

    Is your Master Limiter enabled?
    (and autogain disabled?)

Autogain is disabled. Master limiter is enabled, but turning it off doesn't change anything.

It would seem like something as sophisticated as TP would offer a dipped crossfader, but oh well.

The workaround I've used for this is to lower the upfader for the outgoing track as you move the crossfader toward the incoming track. Kind of awkward at first but with some practice you get a feel for the amount to move both faders to just keep the output out of the red.

Or you could just use the upfaders for both tracks, one up, one down.

Or better yet, mix with eq's.

That's how to REALLY pull a smooth mix.

I don't use the crossfader at all and just use the the channel faders to get the exact effect I need.

A dipped crossfader curve option -- and other curve options as well -- has been requested in these forums before. Personally I think it would be a good thing but in general I'm probably happiest with a crossfader that has its own hardware curve settings anyway. But I'd love to see Traktor include those options in an update. (Ideally I'd love to be able to set your own curve options including multiple clicks like the old samurai crossfaders but it'll probably never happen). But Traktor's really designed for people to mix with the volume faders and eqs in my opinion, so a dipped crossfader and other crossfader options have never been a priority. On the one hand, I think this makes sense for people starting out -- you should learn to mix without the crossfader as your mixes will always be more precise that way -- but on the other hand it would offer a lot more flexibility to anyone who does incorporate the crossfader into their mixes.

i slightly disagree... most (all?) battle mixers dont have a dipped curve... hiphop DJs are using the xfader all the time... however, an option would be nice for those who cant live without it ;)
