I think it's because at some point a higher-up can decide to indeed go that route even though it might not be in the immediate plans, making any statement denying it now became a lie in the future. Would you be happy if they deny it now and 5 years from now change their minds? That reminds me of the Arranger announcement fiasco.

Your kind of viewing your main personal concern as the only topic of that post tho, it was about more than just subscriptions, a lot of people are concerned yes, but also a lot of other people appreciated that post.

Not totally, my concerns with the other post is that there has been no further follow up which has then just made people question it's sincerity.

(Joking here ) Just wait till subscription based software starts offering ‘micro use’ packs where you buy a pack of usage that allows for x number of interactions with say knobs, fades and switches.

( still joking ) Wanna finish that project but ran out of micro uses to adjust the gain on your master?? Time to buy another micro use pack :)

( not joking ) The amount of effort spent on trying to monetize software sometimes is staggering vs putting in the effort to make it worth the price of admission.

True but if it was worth the price of admission they wouldn't have to try to force you to buy or subscribe :D

Using continually updated software for a subscription makes sense to me.

What doesn’t make sense is people buying relatively cheap software with a one time fee and then expecting a decade-plus of updates and fixes and support of all peripherals all while expecting to pay nothing.

Just think of PlayStation Now. You get 800+ games on demand for like $10/month. One year subscription is the price of one new game if you want to own it.

It is a complementary service. You can still buy your game disks.

Why can’t we have the same for NI without everyone going nuts?

Because people like me do NOT hook our Music Production PC's to the internet, would be a complete pain to continually go on Internet so the software can phone home every month or so, as Roland Cloud does for example.

Your post almost implies that you believe there are only those two operational parameters which I'd like to think you don't really believe.

What makes sense to me is companies whose software is good enough to not have to resort to 'imprisoning' tactics and is responsive to the user base because they are smart enough to realise that in most instances that is better for all concerned.

No one would go nuts at something similar at all, most would welcome it. What people go nuts about is mandatory subscription like Adobe.

I guess. But not all companies update. Look at IKM. They just release a software and maybe you get an update oncenir twice. They move on to other stuff.

Why worry about something that has not been announced/mentioned. Why spend so much time and energy when there is no apparent reason?

Why not wait until something happens and then you can complain. Like the SoundCloud announcement for upload limits. They also took this decision back based on user complaints.

But first we need something to complain about.

There are many who feel that this is being considered and are not happy about it so they vent their concern to send a message to register that concern presumably feeling that it's better to change that likelyhood before the event. It's arguably a lot more involved than setting an upload limit.

So just because you „feel“ that something is „considered“ is a reason to complain?

As I say many have interpreted NI's statements and actions over the last year to infer that is a likely possibility and this has made them both upset and anxious as it is something most if not all do not want and they would probably not only 'jump ship' but be reluctant to make any further NI purchases if that was to be the case. Those are pretty serious considerations for users. The fact that NI have refused to clarify matters to allay those fears adequately to at least some rather compounds the fears.
If you feel that's not a matter for any concern then fine, that's your right but it is also the right of those with those concerns to express them don't you think? I kinda feel the fact that if they voice their concerns then it appears to be rather upsetting to you somewhat bizarre.

    „Interpret“, „likely“, „possibility“, „probably“.

You know, just saying... Maybe the world is ending tomorrow - who knows? Until then we could just lay back and make music.
