Now I know this is not possible in K4 in an easy way. I dunno about K5 since I don't own it yet due to lack of money. But what I would really love to see is a way to create custom libraries for Kontakt. Currently I have everything stored in the factory library for lack of a better way. This gives me bunch of headaches when I'm supposed to locate something I've designed for a certain project I'm working on. For instance: I'm designing sounds and music for the movie called Hermit Monster Killer. It would be so much easier if I could create my own libraries specially defined for this and other movie projects so I know where I have things stored. This is something that really would benefit most users.

I actually forked out a sh*tload of money to buy Komplete 7 when it was released back in '10. My Reaktor library is structured this way. So why can't Kontakt? The problem is that when I'm hacking up my own libraries then I don't know what ID keys are available. I picked up some kontakt horror libraries with really awesome sounds. My problem is that I've been force to store them under Kontakt 4 library / Factory / User / Libraries / Horror. Takes a lot of aggrevation and frustration to locate them without a proper library attached to the sounds when I'm in a hurry. If you get my point.

With user libraries it would just be for the author to apply the library image, a manifest describing it and where to put it. And just drop the whole folder in the main kontakt folder. The plugin upon startup locates these files, reads them, and builds a new library for the files in the left tab. Just like that. This is my dream NI!

Libraries tabs is solely for licensed Kontakt Player libraries. It's not intended for user tampering (and that's also a breach of EULA and voids NI support for you if you do that). Use QuickLoad for your own libraries.

That's why I suggest a user library tab.

Very likely won't happen, because QuickLoad exists.

Yes but quick load actually sucks ...

Because if you put too much folders inside quick load, every time you'll load a new Kontakt, quick load will have the spinning ball for like 20 seconds before displaying what's inside each folders....

    That doesn't happen over here.

Probably because you only have a few kontakt libraries in your quickload arborescence.

I guarantee you that if you have like an hierarchy of 20 folders, with inside 30 sub folders then another sub folders inside the sub folders, with thousands of nki files, it will be very slow to display every time you create a kontakt. When the arborescence is fully loaded, everything will be very quick to access, but if you create another kontakt, it will be slow again for like half a minute . Very annoying when the point of "quick load" is to be "quick"

I have 169 folders of Kontakt patches with each folder having at least one sub folder. I have all of the NKIs sorted into 11 Quick Load divisions, i.e. drums, strings, synth 1, synth 2 etc. I have the multis sorted by synth. It takes me 15 seconds to start Kontakt the first time whether in stand-a-lone mode or VSTi mode. After that it takes me 3-4 seconds to create another Kontakt.

I am running an Intel i7, 3.4 GHz, 64 bit Win 10 Pro machine with 16 gigs of ram and HDs. I am not running any SSD drives. I am running my Kontakt patches on a different HD then the Kontakt program.

What are your specs? Do you have the patches on the same HD as the Kontakt program? More information would be helpful.

There is a growing number of sound designers/editors using Kontakt to make their own sound effects instruments that desperately need this, whether it's within a new version of Kontakt, in a third party application like Soundminer that could be modified in a future revision to interface with Kontakt, or within a new sampler program that we can migrate to for this purpose that will better suit our needs. I hope NI is interested in catering to this subset of its user base.

I seriously doubt it. Libraries tab has a very specific purpose - which means catering to developers which pay for Kontakt Player licensing. Those who don't pay, don't get their tab in there. Simple as that. It is extremely unlikely that this will ever change.

NI should really re-think their restrictive library concept - It could be such a brilliant tool to organise kontakt sounds…if it would be open to any nki. Right now it is more or less useless.

What is more important for a great and successful product? happy customers or money from 3rd party licensing partners? I don’t know why we should take NI’s library policy as a given fact when the result is simply not good for the product.

It obviously works out for NI and the number of Player libraries steadily increases throughout the years... so it's not really bad for the product.ž

This policy is extremely unlikely to change, I would stop hoping for it...
