AH ! I see, so C won't jump to the top of the page and A to the bottom when you hit the deck button, C that is on the bottom of the page just takes up more screen space and A stays on top but become just a small over view of the track. Cool, thats sorted then, Im getting now. I'll just play with A&C as track decks, and mix as normal with them, and put a remix deck in B just in case I want to use any samples. Job done ; )

Some of the points raised make you wonder if none of this was brought up when they were beta testing / brainstorming this as a standalone unit.
Hopefully things can be addressed in a firmware update?

That was my first thought ! At some point someone must have said "Hang on you can't do this or that" !! I know the point is to have two of them like decks, but in the real would who is going to turn up with two of these at a club ? There won't be enough room in the booth for two ! Yeah maybe you will have two at home, but knowing how cramped it gets in DJ booths now with a lot of DJs turning up with their own kit, it makes sense to just bring one with you, and so it also makes sense to be able to control all 4 decks PROPERLY with one controller. Traktor 2.8.1 software update with A/B split screen mode please;)

    [

I have been using traktor and NI software for over 5 years.

My experience is they do a horrible job of real world testing with no signs of improvement. This is a big part of the reason why i now hold back on making a purchase of anything new by NI until its been out for a long period. Both hardware and software.

i'd really like to be able to use this as an all-in-one 4 channel controller mixer, Remix Deck controller, effects controller, and A/B deck controller — its got all the parts to almost replace an F1, X1, Z1 sans the sound card which i already have.
is this too much to ask?

My frist impression of the D2:
This machine could be very useful for me (now I use a X1, a F1 and a DJM-900NSX as "sound card" but I need a USB hub to connect everything).
3 months ago I added two D2 in my cart and I was ready to checkout but I changed my mind, why? Easy to tell: this machine is just TOOOOO BIG! I don't understand how they can call it a portable system, is quite impossible to find the space for such a huge machine in any DJ booth.
I go ahead with my X1, not so happy but I have no choice.

Your pictures aren't viewable. There's a error message every time you click to view. Is it possible for you to upload them again? NI Forum hasn't been doing good lately with pics for some reason. It's weird...

NI's approach to push consumers into purchasing 2x D2. Quite obvious for the screen being unable to split between a/b.

Right! I actually like the A/C & B/D concept instead. I always wished NI would do a split screen with that structure and they did.

shouldnt this ultimately be a user configurable thing ? not that difficult to implement i would say

Not sure what you mean by that. Are speaking about the ability to customize the screen? Please explain in more detail...

Well deciding to have an A/c Ab or Cd configuration, the screen represents the setting, so..
can be implemented in the setup/D2 tab. there is no deck A b c or D printed on the hardware case.. so no problems

I was talking about the ability to see 2 decks at once in the default mode on the screen. Since a lot of fuss about not being able to see A&B has been present. Meaning the default to toggle is A/C and B/D. With the option to hold Shift + A,B,C or D deck button in the top right corner... To my knowledge it can't be configured as A&B or C&D to appear on the screen. If you or anyone else owns one and can confirm that isn't the case, please do so...

we are talking a bout the same thing, the only difference is: i dont want 2 d2's. i want and need only one. i know all the short cuts: i just suggest it to be user configurable to have A-b or whatever u choose. there is a split screen it is just not 50/50 but 80/20 (i guess)
    So ..

Ok, got it! I believe NI and several other users I've spoken to have confirmed the decks can't be modified to show A&B or C&D at the same time because it's fixed. But yes, it isn't 50/50 on the screen but you can still see both... I just want one to start out with and have just been trying to get confirmation on such features. I'd rather those who own it confirm such....

Also, I can't understand as to why in the world mapping midi commands isn't possible on a 'MIDI' controller.
It's becoming evident that NI released the D2 for purchase a few months too early. The controller has potential don't get me wrong, just not worth the asking price in its current state.

Between the price and a long list of other questions I have that are hard to find the answers plus easy midi mapping is what has me going back and forth with my decision to get it or not. So, I totally get your concern. Although NI stated it can be customized you just have to call for assistance. I'm starting to have doubts because they've given me misinformation a few times now whenever I've called about products that are made by them. I don't get that...
