Native Instruments CEO Daniel Haver and Chief Innovation Officer & President Mate Galic announce handover to new generation of leadership from within the company

After more than 20 years at the helm, Co-Founder & CEO Daniel Haver and Chief Innovation Officer & President Mate Galic pass on the baton and step into a new Supervisory Board.



Berlin, August 12, 2020 – Today, Native Instruments Co-Founder & CEO Daniel Haver and Chief Innovation Officer & President Mate Galic announce they are handing over NI to a new generation of leaders, appointed from within the company.

Constantin Koehncke, currently Global Marketing Director and heading up the company’s Los Angeles office, will become NI’s new Chief Executive Officer. Robert Linke, currently Director of Sound Products, will take on the position of Chief Product Officer & President. Making up the new Management Board, both will step into their new leadership roles as of October 1st, 2020, marking a new chapter in NI’s history. Daniel Haver and Mate Galic will remain at Native Instruments, actively supporting the company and its new leadership as Chairman and Deputy Chairman via a newly-formed Supervisory Board.

This announcement comes at a time of strength for the company, with a string of highly successful releases from NI’s KOMPLETE Instruments and Effects division, and a financial year on course to be the best in the company’s 24 year history.

Formed in Berlin in 1996, Native Instruments pioneered real-time sound synthesis on standard computers with its first ever product, Generator (later known as REAKTOR). Daniel Haver joined Stephan Schmitt as a co-founder in 1997, and has led the company as CEO since. Mate Galic joined Native Instruments in 1999 and instantly developed a symbiotic relationship with Daniel Haver. Since 2009, they have led the company together – their friendship, complementary skill sets, and relentless pursuit of innovation have kept the business at the cutting edge of digital music creation and performance.

Today, Native Instruments is a leading manufacturer of software and hardware for computer-based audio production and DJing and one of the largest and most influential companies in the music technology industry, providing creative tools to millions of music makers and DJs, and employing more than 400 staff throughout its seven offices worldwide.

NI’s new CEO, Constantin Koehncke, is currently Global Marketing Director and heads up the company’s Los Angeles office. Over his 10 years with Native Instruments, Constantin played a crucial role in positioning the company at the cutting edge of music creation. With a track record of building and managing high-performing teams – including NI’s Americas Marketing division in the company’s largest market – he’s created a multitude of high-profile campaigns and partnerships, leaning on his deep relationships with the global artist community and the wider music industry. Prior to NI, he worked as a publicist and journalist, and was an active DJ in London and Berlin.

Robert Linke joined NI in 2006 and is currently Director of Sound Products, encompassing the company's virtual instruments, audio effects, and sound libraries as well as the flagship KOMPLETE bundles. He has proven to be a vital contributor in shaping Native Instruments’ outstanding product quality and variety in his 14 years at the company. Prior to NI, he worked for Mercedes Benz South Africa and was an active electronic music producer and DJ.

Incoming CEO, Constantin Koehncke, says: “The accomplishments of Daniel and Mate in taking NI to this point are extraordinary. The new Native Instruments leadership will be effective as of October 1st. In addition to the above announcements, Tobias Baumbach, currently Vice President of Engineering officially becomes Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and joins the new leadership team. Tobias Baumbach has served as interim CTO since January 2020, having already made major contributions for over a decade as a developer and senior manager in the company’s engineering department. Lars Kröger and Tom Kurth remain key pillars of the organization, having served over 15 years at NI, most recently in their roles as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer.

 

Great news.

Maybe this now will finally clarify and seperate Traktor from the rest of the company that is producing musical instruments.

At the company I work for, in every big boss we got, there were always good sides, and also bad sides. Always.
Whatever are their past accomplishments and CV, let's just hope this time we customers will only feel the good sides of these people, in every aspect of this business.

What are his thoughts on revisiting Kore 2? Where's the real development with Komplete Kontrol?

Long time NI customers can see right through those words.. I'm all about giving someone a chance.. What can you do with this company,besides make loop packs,and half ass software with feature requests that fall on deaf ears!

 

I'm not really interested in 'politics' myself and instead focus on the cool things like Komplete and Maschine. But having said that I do believe that it's a good thing that their successors came from within the company itself.

It sure beats adding a few suits who know nothing about the company's culture or the core business.

 

the proof is in the eating of the pudding. All leadership changes take at least 6 months to surface any results. For me personally I will know when I see a steady heartbeat of Maschine releases with new features, bugfixes and improvements, handling of Apple BigSur for the current crop of products and software, and the alignment of M+ and Mk3 development. Fingers crossed, hoping for the best!

Here is a major tip for the management.
Your company needs to work like one cohesive operation - you are failing to follow sound business practice as your support orgainsation is an unmitigated disaster.
In my opinion based on my experience your products (when they work) are sound.
When they don't work or there is a problem, it all falls apart with your support organisation - don't believe me? Checkout Trust pilot and then decide you need too change that situation until the scale is tipped to 99% happy.
If I were managing your company with the current result I'd be horrified, and root out the cause that is giving NI a bad name.

 

Agreed. Let me keep it simple. NI you must begin to take care of your loyal customers. I own so many of your products but the customer service has been horrible. No support when I need help, no one to talk to no help when I have questions about things I may want to purchase. This is not sustainable. NI Leadership listen up.

 

I am not in the least bit interested in tokenism by way of a trophy for my first post.. ACTION is the keyword....GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER !!!!!!

1) Have a dialogue with the company that services/repairs/reconditions your equipment sold on Reverb - ask them to explain why their "servicing" includes sending out faulty products - I could do better!
2) Determine and resolve why products sent by UPS take a week plus (sometimes 3.5 weeks), whilst DHL/Fedex take 3 days when sent to the UK

And like AI G I I also own many of your products, as well as Pioneer, Kam Lexicon, Behringer Aphex, Tascam, Peavey DAP, QSC , RCF, Alexis HZ, Citronic (and too my shame Skytec )- the list goes on!
