    Hello everyone,

I would like to transform data and statistics to some audio pieces I have made and test what may happens.

Is there anyway to do that with a pre-existing Reaktor patch?

Do you have any knowledge on how I could build my own?

Thank you very much in advance.

It depends on the structure/format of the data and what you want to do with it.

Reaktor can only import simple text files - lists of numbers, really, and space-separated, I think. So if you have tables of data, and you want to pull them in, you might need to pull them apart into individual lists, pull them in, then recombine into tables in Reaktor, which makes it possible to save them as Native Table Files. I'm not sure whether it's possible to create Native Table Files outside Reaktor - might be worth searching for that.

Once you've got your data, you'd probably need to work with Reaktor event/audio tables. Theologiae's written a tutorial about that, and there are a few references to table logic in my Reaktor Diary videos.

Reaktor will let you do a lot of maths to your data; I'd consider working out how to make an ensemble purely for transforming your data, then save Native Table Files based on the transformed data, then pull those into separate ensembles for making music with the transformed data.

I hope that makes sense - good luck with it!

    Hello Dave,

Thank you for your reply. I do have numbers, statistics, percentages and numerical data which I would like to transform into a completed piece. Is that possible by using the event/tables you described below?

Where can I find this tutorial from Thelogiae?

Of course, for me the best would be to build my own, but I have no experience on that and any help would be warmly appreciated.

    Thank you again.

    Hi there

Here's a post about Theologiae's tutorial - which I just turned up using the forum's search page.

It will be possible to apply transformations to your data, but it's possibly rather esoteric in Reaktor building terms: it feels to me like event tables tend are usually considered intermediate/advanced topics in Reaktor, so you'll need to have patience.

So I think, if possible, it'd be best to gain some building experience, by pursuing tutorials and tutorial ensembles, and treating your idea as a long-term goal. It might well be possible, once you know a little about how event tables work, to reduce the distance to where you want to go by pre-treating your data to make it more "easily digestible" by Reaktor.

If that feels like it'll take too long, it might well be worth looking up other applications which might help: I'm not an expert (or even a user) but there are various algorithmic sequencers out there... other modular soundmaking systems too, like Max/MSP. It's possible that Reaktor (alone) might not be the best software for what you want to do.

You'll need to know something about Reaktor building to be able even to specify how your ensemble should work, so it's difficult to offer more specific help at this stage, so my advice would be to work at tutorials in the spirit of assessing Reaktor as a tool, then gently research other potential tools.

    Cheers

    Dave
