Deactivated my System ID! Please help!

    OK, time to be humble, 'cause I did something really dumb.

    I recently had an issue where Traktor would no longer launch after installing Airfoil on Mac OS X 10.3.9. Thought it would be fun to have Traktor's audio output routed to my Airport Express. Instead, I ended up removing Airfoil, and still Traktor would not launch. Tried cleaning up files the app may have left behind, repaired disk permissions, and re-booted several times to no avail.

    Finally, I bit the bullet and trashed Traktor's prefs files. The crash report seemed to indicate there were some settings there the application did not like, and I knew the app would just re-create the files it needed to run. Unfortunately, the app reverted to demo mode, and told me I needed to re-authorize the product.

    As luck would have it, this problem coincided with NI's server issues, so I could not log on to register the product and get another authorization key. Taking matters into my own hands (here comes the dumb part), when I was able to log on the following day, I DE-ACTIVATED MY SYSTEM ID! Now, why would I do that? Well, the System ID that the registration tool generated was at least one digit different, so I figuered I'd better de-activate the "old" one before re-authorizing.

    Now, when I use the tool to get an auth key, the server says this System ID has been deactivated, and no products can be authorized on it. I naturally emailed support, but have not heard back for two days now. (If any NI employees are lurking, my service request number is 18002.)

    Anybody got any bright ideas?

    and don't panic, the demo runs for 30 days, right?! ;)

    anyways, i don't understand you fully, i mean, you can register twice with one serial and you can deactivate and activate your serial as long as you wanna...

    Thanks for responding!

    Here's exactly what I mean by dumb...

    I purposefully logged onto the 'Manage my authorizations' page and clicked the 'deactivate' button next to an authorized System ID, the one listed as 1.1 to be precise. When I log on now, there is no longer a button, and it says deactivated next to this ID. When I run the tool, it chokes after taking my info, saying that this ID is deactivated, and no products can be authorized on this system.

    I cannot find a link that will allow me to re-activate a System ID. Is there one? Am I really that dumb?

    hmm... it's a time ago i did these deactivation thingies....

    but it may be true that it doesn't work this way, cuz you didn't really changed anything in your system (hardware, new OS) which would force your computer to put out a new sys id.

    however, if you don't hear anything from me within 1 week, write to me again!!

    OK, now this is weird.

    Still haven't received a response from NI. I've logged on to the 'Manage my authorizations' page several times in the past few days. Every time, auth 1.1 was listed as deactivated. Today, auth 1.2 was listed as deactivated.

    Feeling lucky, I tried the registration tool again. Clicked register, filled in my info, and got the same error message as before. Back to the manage page. I copied the auth key listed next to 1.1, pasted it into the registration tool, and magic! It worked!

    What bugs me now is why did it work? The system ID listed in 1.1 is different from the one the reg tool reports. (In fact, the one next to 1.2 is different from 1.1 and the reg tool.)

    Seems my problem is effectively solved. I'll let you know if NI ever gets back to me.

    Thanks for the prompt attention, and your help if you had anything to do with the magic.

    The 30 day demo solution is ok for somone needing to use Traktor but on the flip side why does anyone have to wait on info if you paid for the software?

    NI never got back to me. I would still like to undo the de-activation, if possible, even though the software is now authorized and working.

    Any thoughts?

    similar thing happened to me a week ago.....and i still havent heard back from NI support.

    thanks for the help!

    I received an email from support on 18 May stating that my system ID had been re-activated on 4 May. It must have been around that time that I logged on to find 1.1 was no longer listed as de-activated, but 1.2 was instead, and that the auth key worked in the reg tool.

    I logged again today, and there is only 1.1 listed on the manage auths page, 1.2 is gone, and none are listed as de-activated.

    all is well in the universe, and thanks again for looking into this issue!

    thanks for stepping up and dealing with our situation.... but for the record, i'm still pretty amazed that they need a forum moderator to do their job for them. ( moderators arent NI employees right? )
