    Hi NI,

first of all, I know that I could write a mail directly to you, but by writing a thread in the forum, you get A. more people to read a problem (to generally check IF it is a "real" problem) B. to get several opinions and C. if I am doing something wrong, chances are good that more people maybe get or understand the solution you are posting!

I had quite some threads going on about this, but I recently took an hour time to only take care about the quickjump and favorite folders in K2.

I finally came to the conclusion that it's really a big pain to work with those features.

If you use the quickjump option in the normal browser (file menu) they are absolutely unusable.
I created 10 quickspots I have as favorite folders, but as soon as I close and open K2 or visit other folders, they are completely messed up.
Suddenly quickjump spots are empty or show a different directory. It is a complete mess.

Funny thing is, this was already on my PC. Now I am on IntelMAC and it is the complete same thing. So it is definitely NOT a problem of my OS or my machine.

Then I took some time to get into the quicklist options in the database. This is a complete drag to work with and I really ask myself (please don't take that personal but with a smile) if the coder has been on drugs or his girlfriend quit on that day he did the quickjump concept.

Honestly and without any irony in my voice: How does this stuff work? What I am doing wrong?

I choose a folder, tick the little squares to the left of the instrument lists. Then copy this selection to the quicklist. I rename it and create the next one by ticking the folders I wanna see and unticking the ones I previously used for quicklist 1.

But when I load the quicklist again, it shows the folder of instruments.
But as soon as I visit this folder to load e.g. trumpets or so, the favorite quicklist folder stays at the trumpet folder list. This is not a favorite list.

Isn't it simply possible to have a simple and stupid favorite list of the folders I want to have as definite favorites on my HD?

    To describe it a little:

    1. I go to my sample drive
    2. I choose the instruments folder with all the patches overview
    3. I lock this spot and create "favorite 1"
    4. Next time I visit the favorite 1 it is the EXACT same folder I assigned to that spot

I think this is not really hard to code, no? Every browser can do this

I am sorry, maybe I am also a little bit stupid and my tone isn't the nicest, but I simply don't get it. This system is so confusing and not working. It can't be my environment, since it happened on my PC and now on my MAC, so it MUST be something in the K2 software itself.

Please help me to understand this. I have big working templates but very very often I have to load additional stuff like Stormdrum Toms, True Strike Djembe or another sample patch. I waste a lot of time by all the time roam the harddisc for the appropriate folder.

I know sometimes someone has a simple brain block. You don't see the wood because of the trees ... but this time I am really clueless and what wonders me even more. If it's buggy, do you guys who work with K2 always roam your harddiscs? Do you also type all your collected URL into the browser instead of using bookmarks?

    Seconded. Quick jumps are useless.

A simple favourites system would be an absolute asset!

Thirded. Gave up on this pathetic & awkward part of kontakt after trying to get it to work for over half an hour.

What's with this idea anyway? Favourites / bookmarks would have been ideal. Setting up quickjump folders doesn't seem to work at all.

Thought I had it nailed yesterday. Rebuilt database, assigned quick juimps. Exit Kontakt. Open again, they are all still there but they all link to the same folder!

    What is going on?

    Hi Waywyn,

I just checked this on PC in 2.2.3.003. it works fine for me as long as I do not select a root entry in the upper browser window, i.e. click on the plus sign and select a folder on the second level or below.

Kontakt then remembers that quick-jump when closing and reopening. if you do not lock the quick-jump, Kontakt will remember the last folder selected in the upper browser folder at the end of that session and overwrite your quick-jump.

if I lock the current quick-jump after selecting a folder, Kontakt correctly remembers that state. I believe that was not working in a previous version.

in Kontakt 3.0.1, everything works as expected, including with root entries like c: or \\networkdrive\share (z: ). Folders selected in the lower browser window will not be registered, you have to select them in the upper window or double-click on them in the lower window.

    best,
    Markus

Hey Markus and thanks for your reply,

sorry, but I tried it either way and there is no chance to make it work 100% correctly. Anyone else?

Besides all that, I think the argument:
"it works fine for me as long as I do not select a root entry in the upper browser window, i.e. click on the plus sign and select a folder on the second level or below."

    ... isn't really a good explanation.

What if I go to a car seller and he tells me only to get into the car through the back left door, otherwise the motor stops after 50km?

Stupid comparison, but kind of the same. If I buy something with a certain feature, I want it to work, by not spending money for K3 which isn't 64 bit yet - useless for me.

Don't get me wrong, NI does supersmashing excellent products, but the coder who invented these quickjumps probably had a huge party going on the night before :)

I can confirm the pain. Setting QJ and then locking it - seems to work great - but then after a restart of my mac or K3 - they are all gone...

In our studio when other applications act like this - we refer to it as the Native Instruments FX = Great Ideas - Poor Manufacturing.

I thought I had it working (purely as an experiment), and indeed 2 of my 3 quickjumps are still working on my PC as I write this. But the 3rd one has vanished! Despite it being there (and functioning) when I first read the thread.
The 2 still working do link to different folders - one is in the Battery 3 folders and the other takes me to a folder in the new K3 folders.
At the moment I am personally struggling to understand the quick load function, the manual and my screen do not yet agree with each other - but I guess thats another thread...
