I´ll save the rage ´till I get my Kore 2 upgrade in the mail. But I see that I might expect to be running it in the darn demo mode for some time, looking at how you guys are struggling with the (Denial of) Service Center these days. :-S

My Battery software didn't have a grace period or demo version. It simply would not run until I activated, so I was left high and dry for quite a while until NI got their crap together.

I agree, pirates can bypass both activation and dongles- making all this copy proection useless.

Anybody here use FLSTUDIO? They have the least invasive copy protection I love!

You just install a .REG file to your computer, and you're good to go. What keeps you from sharing it? Well, while it's running, it does phone home randomly to make sure you're not using a key that somebody else is.. if you are, it automatically ZIPS all your files into a password protected folder, which you have to contact them to pay and get a password to unzip.

I currently have been scared out ever considering sharing it - so that means it's working against people sharing their software. But at the same time, it hasn't inconvenienced me ONCE! I have not "activated" or dealt with ANYTHING annoying. EVER! I've used the software for years, with many upgrades. It's amazing!

True, their software gets pirated as well. But there's no stopping that. Their system is the only one that actually prevents MOST copying, but not preventing innocent users from using a product that they paid for!

Yes. It is very simple, very convenient.
    If it works.

    Legal?

I find the idea of a third party maintaining a database of my computer configurations and useage to establish that I am not a pirate far more invasive than any background task on my computer!

Your remark makes me wonder: is this procedure legal?
Selling a product, and only letting it do what it is supposed to do after having had a good look in another's persons private property?

Why not just a simple serial number? -- like with the latest version of Logic, I'm so happy to be rid of the dongle, and there's no activation or anything.

Some people prefer their music production computers to be non-internet. So those should be thought of as well if NI is making such a anti-piracy device. :)

There is a lot of discussion going on about iLocks and dongles etc and everybody seems to be busy to solve the protectionproblem for NI.
Why is everybody- almost verybody- trying to advise NI?
They sold a product that doesn't work because of something wrong with their registration or authorization tool.
They have to make it work, not us.
I'm an amateur- a lover- and I see all these complaints of real professionals, people who work in real studio's, and have to put up with such a low level of professionalisme.

I´ll give them at least ONE advice: Don´t make the Kore controller or the Rig Kontroll hardware keys. I have Line 6 Gearbox (the Pod XT Live version). But do I use it? No! When I feel like using plug-ins, most of the time I´ll be far away from them damn guitar effect board, weighing in some 10 pounds. The stupid hardware key solution is one of the reasons I´m ditching Line 6. Let´s hope that my new favourite company won´t have to suffer the same destiny. :)

    registration tool a total hassle

Agree with sentiments about registration tool (and service centre).
had to install new OSX and re-install all audio components (Logic 8, PT 7.4) and plug-ins. took all of 10 minutes for iLok registered plug-ins, but hours of complicated work for NI instruments/plug-ins. some still not working, some registration totally confusing (first it says 'not activated', next time round it is).
Also I need a back-up system (can't afford downtime), which means I need to register several copies of plug-ins (even though they sit in the same computer, albeit on a different hard drive). seems to work, but I don't trust it - the registration only shows that it's registered for one system.
would be more than happy to pay for iLok.
Q: is there ever going to be a TDM version? can't use TRAS when running DAE through Logic.
