So I'm thinking of buying a computer that I will dedicate solely to music stuff. DJing, producing, whatever. I'm a desktop junkie, though. I understand most everything there is to know about building a computer, but when it comes to laptops, I'm completely clueless. I know it seems odd, but I just don't know much about mobile processors and how heavy programs like Traktor, Reason, Ableton, etc deal with the resources.

Can anyone help me find a solid laptop to suite music needs? Budget isn't important - I'm looking more for quality. That being said, I'm not looking to drop $2000 on a 17" MBP. I'd like best value over most power since, again, I intend to use it SOLELY for music!

A few things I'm really interested in:

    - Currently, I'm running TP2 with my S4. I also do a bit of stuff in Reason, and I have the intentions of buying Ableton in the next year or two.

    - Optimal screen size. Production side, not AS huge, since I can output to my TV or other monitor if need be. For DJing though, what's the sweet spot y'all have found?

    - Processor. I'm running an i7-930 right now on my desktop with no issues.

    - RAM. I know the more the better is true, so I'll probably get stock + order more to get my 8/12 gigs (depending on what the board supports). I am curious to know if specific RAM speeds make noticeable impacts, though!

Again, I'm not going to corner myself into a budget, but I'm not looking for a gaming laptop that will run Skyrim max at release, ha. I literally intend to keep nothing but the OS + music stuff on there. Thanks for the help! :)

i would go Asus, one of the best u can get, just find the specs u want.
i have an HP, had a deal i couldnt pass up. but i looked at a few Asus machines.

also 15.6 is s sweet size, 17"ers are just too big to transport much. in my eyes. and most laptop stands are more cattered to the smaller footprints

only time was when i used the traktor browser to open a folder that had 1000s of songs in it, the traktor started scanning all the files and eventually crashed
when i use the collection that i have already analyzed and saved from itunes i have had no issues.
