    Hi everyone,

I'm new to Kontakt and am having a weird problem with the DFD function... hope someone can help out.

I am using a sample library called Drumkit From Hell that comes with a Kontakt mapping file that loads fine, I can point out the required WAV files and load the mapped .nkm instrument file (there are 10 instruments in total).

Problem is that when I hit a note on my keyboard the "Disk" light in Kontakt continues to show activity for a few seconds after the note has finished sounding and eventually I hear a quieter repeat of the note that I played.

I have messed with the DFD buffer settings and can't seem to make this stop. When I load the same samples into ram this behavior stops.

    I am running Kontakt 1.5.1 on a Dual 450/G4, 896MB ram,OS 10.3.2
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Kevorkian! How are you?. I am experiencing the the exact problem using piano samples. I tried adjust the poly's in the instrument bar by raising them, thinking that there was note stealing going on, but still I get a slight ehco of the note at a softer volume, then there's no sound while playing the notes on my controller (using a sustain pedel while this happens). I'm searching around my self to see if I can resolve this issue. I have adjusted the DFD settings as well. This is happening with version 1.2.1. I don't have ver 1.5.1 yet waiting for NI to send it to me. Sorry I can't help out for now but I'll watch out for you in my other post, Bye for now!

Is this standalone or as a plugin? what plugin interface if applicable?

Have you tried disabling DFD and loading the entire program into RAM?

    Thanks for the responses!

Briguy: It's good to know that I am not alone, here. Question... did you construct the Piano .nkm file yourself, or are you using a mapping that was included with the sample library?

Huddy: The problem occurs when in standalone or plugin mode. I use Logic and DP under OS X.

CardBryant: When I load everything into RAM the problem goes away and everything is perfect, except that I'm using a huge amount of RAM (I'm buying more BTW)

Hey Kev! All I'm doing is pulling up out of the supplied piano samples (Grand Piano) in 2 instances, no tweaks or anything just to make it sound a little more full of a sound. I notice this is happening with alot of different sounds. I have played around with choosing DFD or sampler, I have upped the poly's a little but noticed that even without upping the poly's I'm not even hitting the ceiling value and the notes still go away. Last night I loaded up the piano sample from the library, the same one in 2 instaces and played 1 note at a time and held down each note as I added another one. By this time I think on the 4th or 5th with the sustain enable the sound go's away. Like I said though It's not just with the piano samples. The thing that blew my mind last night was when I started playing about 3 notes really fast the DISK botton went red, the sound just echoed in another instances and I got a loud buzzing sound and that's when KONTAKT crashed. Really don't know what to say at this point. It's as if playing something small just seems to suck up all the ram and give's up. Again I have increase and decreased preload buffer sizes and anything else that was available to adjust with. I'm pretty upset about this. I mean KONTAKT blows away KOMPAKT in terma of stablility and such , but Geez I just want to play me piano and make some music. Again This is happening with Version 1.2.1. Thanks again Kev hope you have more info for me! Oh I have 1 gig of ram running a P4 2.0 G

NI has found the bug that is causing "ghost" samples. It is with the DFD engine (i.e. if you disable DFD and just use RAM, it'll work perfectly) and this will be fixed in the next release of Kontakt.

    Hi everybody.
I'm having the exact same problem on my PB g4 using Kontakt 1.5.1. Kontakt 1.2 with DFD works perfectly as a VST in Logic on my PC. I'm happy to see that it's a known problem and NI is working on a fix. I emailed the tech support about that problem 3 weeks ago and they told me to play with the DFD settings. Do they know about the problem or not? I had to wait 3 weeks to get this answer!!!!!!!!!

Of course the new version will be made for OSX and therefore not fix the problem for any OS9 users.
