Hello everyone at NI Forums. My name is Jay I am a producer for Custom DJ Drops in Houston Texas USA. I was wondewring if someone could help me out here. We purchased BATTERY 3 from an Authorized dealer. We have a MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard. We are trying to do some simple sampling with words such as stuttering the word DJ like DDDDDDDDD JJJJJohny Blaze.

Did we buy the wrong thing or can someone explain to us how to set this up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jay

Hello Custom DJ Drops. I may be way out of my league on this one ,but here is some food for thought. This is how I may go about manipulating vocal sample's using Battery 3. Keep in mind I do not own or have ever owned a MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8. First off, the vocals that you are wanting to manipulate must be recorded and in the digital realm. Battery can do just about anything to a sample as long as the sample to be manipulated is in some sort of digital format, I prefer .wav. Once you have your .wav, or whatever your preference of digital audio files may be, you can then use Battery to search for your files in the Browser tab of Battery. Battery allows you to search, preview, then drag and drop your .wav file or files into the given cells. Then maipulate the cells as well as trigger the cells using your MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard. I do not know how you have recorded you vocal's into your computer, but now it is time to capture the manipulated vocals coming out of Battery. You can use Battery as a standalone or as a plug-in. I would use Battery as a plug-in inside of Ableton because that is just me. The reason is so that when I have my sample's inside of Battery I can then record the sounds coming out of Battery and everything is done digitally. As for the MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard? I am sure that once programmed you can trigger your vocal cells inside of Battery with the MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard by using the Automation Page inside of Battery. Though when I think about it, doesn't M-Audio have software that can also map out your controller? Another words, Battery cell C1 would be C1 on the MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard. Like how I said, I am not familiar with the MIDIMAN OXYGEN 8 Keyboard, I just know how I would go about triggering, manipulating, and recording out of Battery. I hope this helps.

You could definitely use your MIDI keyboard to trigger the vocal. That is one way, but you might find it easier to use the loop page. I think there's a total of 8 independent loops you can set, so try using them for that stuttering vocal effect. You could set the first loop to trigger the D sound say 5 or 6 times, then the second to trigger the J sound the same amount.

Let us know how u go...

You need a program to record the samples you want to trigger. You can't record samples in Battery - it doesn't do that. Once you have your samples recorded, you can definitely use Battery and your keyboard to play them back. I'm sure the authorized dealer would be happy to sell you another piece of software - you might take a look at Ableton Live, though it may be overkill for your needs.
