OK I'm still exploring all my options at this time. I have a few questions.

    1. are you playing your keyboard through guitar rig 2?
    2. what keyboard are you using?
    3. how did you set up the key switching and articulation?

Direct Guitar 2 - any different from one in Kontakt 3?

Dear Andrea, I noticed that a list of virtual instruments in Kontakt 3 lists Pettinghouse as guitar sample provider. Is it just samples or full Direct Guitar which offers, I guess, more sophisticated controls? I am planning to buy Direct Guitar 2 full version and want to be sure I am getting more powerful product and not duplicating existing one in Kontakt 3.

    Thanks in advance

I've just received Direct Guitar 2.0 and installed it today. What can I say.... it is fantastic. The jazz patch is just out of this world and it is so easy to use.
I knocked up a short demo of a lead guitar patch to see how it would stand up to scrutiny and I must say, it is the most convincing sample set I've used to date.
Take a listen if you want - the solo was played in real time and all key switching was done live at the same time - no overdubbing or editing here. It's just a rough track but I was desperate to try it out.
    Listen at: www.dexter.org.uk/directG.mp3

I'm using guitar rig as well of course....
(Bass is care of Scarbee BB, Drums are EZDrummer and Rhodes and Organ are NI)

    Cheers,

    K

Cool I'm glad soom one endorsed it. That will be next on my shopping list next to gr3 software. I also plan on getting Kore 2 to patch all of it together. Do think it would be a good combo? Or should I be looking at something different. The reason I ask is I do everything midi and gr3 soft ware and Kore 2 will be new for me as well as this. I do how ever have kontakt 3 I figure Kore 2 will make it easer to use.

I have Kore 2 as well but dont see that it will make it any easier to use. Kore itself is a great tool, but it doesn't really make any instrument more playable.

OK I may not need Kore 2 at this time. I do have few more questions.

    1. Is the GR3 you are using hard ware or software?
    2. If software Are you patching it threw a analog or midi keyboard?
    3. If a midi keyboard what host are you using.

Sorry for all the questions I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. especially GR3

    Hi Terry,
I do not have the hardware controller for GR3 - I just use the plugin.
I don't patch through a keyboard as such, but the guitar solo was played via a MIDI keyboard running through Cubase SX3 which I use for the host. In other words, Kontakt is loaded as a VSTi in Cubase, Direct Guitar 2.0 was loaded as an instrument in Kontakt and finally the output from Kontakt was routed through GR3 as an insert effect on this channel.
I'm off to play with it some more.

OK I was able to get the demo version of GT3 and DG 2.0 to work in sonar. Pretty cool. It looks as though parts are samples and other parts are of kontakt. Is this true or are most of the sounds are new and not samples. Now it comes down to the nitty gritty of cost. How much of a difference is there between this setup and est west ministry of rock. I'm mostly interested in the heavy medal sounds. GR 3 + DG 2.0 = 440.00 US verses East West Ministry of Rock= 400.00 US.

Sorry, The last thing I want to do is make another costly mistake

I don't own Ministry of Rock although I have looked at it before. All I would say is that it is a fine tool, it contains bass and drums as well as guitar, so you are only getting a few guitar sounds. It has its own guitar effects which are nowhere near as comprehensive as GR3. It really comes down to what sort of music you do most. If you are into rock sounds then I would say get Ministry of Rock first as this is what it does best. For me, I prefer the combination as I can pick and choose the type of guitar and pickup position and also the effected sound I want.
Let us know what you opt for.

I would rather stick with this because of just the very thing you pointed out "options". Plus you don't have to use a doggal and I really don't need any more drums. OK Let me ask three more questions. Then Ill make up my mind.

    1. What does the full version have that the lite does not?
    2. Is there anything comparable to the GR 3 ?
    3. Is there any way to use the DG 2.0 and GR 3 in Kontakt 3 instead of having to load it into a sequencer? The reason is to lower the CPU hognes of it.

Good stuff. You will love it. There are many different sample sets with DG2 and all are great. It came quickly, withing a week if I recall. Let me know how you get on with it. I'm still delighted I bought it. Direct Bass Lite is worth having too!

I was able to down load direct bass lite late last night and had no time to work with it. Ive been texting pettinhouse
about it and I have to say it truly refreshing to have some one respond as quickly as he does. From a customers stand point I wonder why he doesn't just send a link for the down load of it instead of sending it in the mail or better yet do both. I guess I'm just impatient. I think Ill text him about it as suggestion.

Kontakt 3 library has 3 patches from DirectGuitar lite 1.5, If you buy DirectGuitar full 2.0 you are not going to have any duplicate.
