    Hi there,

I've been searching for this on the forum, but couldn't find it... I'm at the point to buy Maschine, TSP2 and two X1 controllers

What is the best DJ-setup for this? How does it work with the 4 decks and Maschine? I heard from a guy that it's possible to have two audio signals via 1 audio channel on the Audio10, is that so?

Maybe someone can help me with this?

    Thanx in advance!

And is there any ready mappings for TSP2, X1 and Maschine?

There's a mapping for traktor pro in maschine that works well enough to get started. You can also look for dj endo's maschine mapping for traktor pro. I haven't seen any mappings yet for tp2 but assuming you're using decks and not sample decks, the original mappings work fine. You'll have to create your own mapping for the sample decks(I've been working on mine for a little over a week...so far so good) I encourage you to learn hOw to map midi since if will let you layout the controls as best you see fit. NI has provided mapping for sample decks on deck a and b but they apparently overwrite the old mappings but you can always restore the mapping.

reading your post, you aim at external mixing. For that to use at full extent, you need a 4 channel mixer with a Mic switchable to line as a 5th channel (or full 5 channel mixer). The TSP2 bundled Audio10 should be able to handle the audio I/O completely.

there are 2 variants for using these together - as two softwares or to use the maschine as a Traktor controller. You can also switch the maschine controller from native to MIDI on the fly, so the two variants can be used together within a single performance.

yeah it'd be a great setup.

Thanx loopbg for your reply! So for instance the Xone92 would be good? I just saw an image of the Xone92. There are two Mic connectors. If you want stereo you should use them both with an connector from RCA to XLR? Sorry for not being so keen on this! Just want to know the options before I buy anything...

Xone92 is one of the best mixers in terms of audio quality and input/output connectivity. The Mic channels are multi-mode channels, switchable to Mic and to Stereo input (which are actually a send/return channels). Practically, 92 is a 6 stereo channel mixer and is one of the greatest mixers to use for your desired TSP2+Maschine setup.

There are many scenarios and devices you could use. I will try to give you some basic ideas for what to look for:

Traktor 2 has 5 stereo outputs - 4 decks + the loop recorder, which is a separate output channel. This is the reason why the new sound card has 10 inputs & outputs, vs the Audio 8's 8 pairs of I/O. For ultimate Traktor experience, you would probably utilize all the 5 channels for Traktor only. If you use Traktor with all 5 dedicated outputs, you won't have a free output on your TA10 sound card to connect maschine. There are still several choices for you:

    1. Traktor 2 has a new feature to merge the output of 2 or more decks into a single output on the soundcard. An example would be to have Decks A & B on dedicated outputs; C & D into one output as samples/utility decks; the loop recorder on it's own channel; Maschine on the last 5th stereo output.

    2. You use one more sound card to use for Maschine. It could be TraktorAudio2 or 4 or why not the new Studio grade KompleteAudio6 or any other suitable card. With the 92 you have the channels on the mixer.

    3. TSP certified mixers can run Traktor without using the TA10 so it will be available for you to use for Maschine. These mixers are all 4 + 1 channel mixers and a great option for a setup like yours:
    a) Denon DN-X1600 has a very attractive price tag for it's feature set and audio quality.
    b) Denon DN-X1700 - it has two FX processors and more I/O options than the 1600. Costs more, of course.
    c) The new Pioneer DJM-900 a.k.a "Nexus" - very same feature set as the Denon 1600 for double the price.

    hope this helps

Well thanx again for the great reply! I'm not very keen on taking mixers with me, I carried the Xone:4D around for quite some time now, and it doesn't work for me very good. I usually play where an 92 is available, so if I'm correct I could do the following:

    * Use all four decks (normal or utility) via four outputs
    * Use the loop recorder on the 5th and last output. Send this to one of the two Mic channels on the 92.
    * Use Maschine via another soundcard on the other Mic channel of the 92.

The Mic channels are with Jack plugs, I need a connector from RCA to Mono Jack's? Actually, I never used the Mic lines, but I don't think you can use the filter of the 92 on those channels can you?

And a last question about the loop recorder; you can record the loops on one of the decks you play, play this loop (via one of the Mic channels), and put the rest of the decks down? So only that loop is playing?

yes on all the questions :)

You need cables RCA to Mono jack cables to connect to the Return input on the Mic channels. Depending on the exact audio interface you'll get that may not be true, but the principle is this, yes.

Filters don't work on the Mic channels :(. You still have the option to merge decks C&D into a single output so the 4th channel on the 92 can be on a channel with Filter ability. It might appear that it's simpler to just use the TA10 for all you connections.

The loop recorder can play on it's own. It's best if you can hook it through one of the 92's Send/Return, so you can control it from the mixer. It's like a sampler, with a layer feature - every time you start to record, it adds a new layer to the sample, while preserving the previous layers. You can also undo one layer at a time.
