Do i need traktor scratch pro with the S8?

    Silly question but i already have traktor pro 2, i will never scratch as its silly, so i dont want to fork out 60 pounds for software i wont use. but im being forced to buy it in the checkout when i pre-order. if i dont need it i will preorder from another supplier.

    pretty sure thats anywhere you order it....basically the hardware is coming with the software you need to run it. which IS NOT the same version you already own

    Im pretty sure you dont need the software because all the independant retailers are selling it without it for £939. on here its £999. by software i mean traktor scratch pro.

    The S8 comes with Traktor Scratch Pro software bundled with it.
    It is not available to buy without the software anywhere in the world - it is a boxed bundle.

    You don't need to install the provided software you just update your Traktor Pro to the latest version after the S8 is released (there will be a free update).
    You could also then reactivate your Traktor installation with the new serial number that comes with the S8. This will not affect your current installation, all it will do is change the name at the top from Traktor Pro to Traktor Scratch Pro. You don't need to use the scratch mode (being as you find it silly).

    This is a useful hint for current Traktor users who wonder how to proceed when the box arrives. I would appreciate advice on how to leave everything as it is with my current Traktor Pro installation (2.6.8) and just use the S8 (replacing or alternatively to a X1-F1-Z1 setup) avoiding as much in terms of installation etc. From what you say, there is no need to install the Traktor Scratch Pro that comes with the S8 - just update the current TP 2.6.8 and it will work with the S8.

    On the other hand, if I wish to install Traktor Scratch Pro, side-by-side with the current 2.6.8, the new version accessing the same playlists etc, how do I proceed with this? I did some reading regarding side-by-side installation but it still leaves me unsure of whether one can get it wrong.

    To change Traktor Pro to Traktor Scratch Pro
    - Quit Traktor Pro
    - Open NI Service Center
    - Open the Overview tab
    - Find your Traktor Pro producht
    - Click on "Show Details"
    - Edit the serial and enter the serial of Traktor Scratch Pro
    - Activate the new serial number
    - Launch Traktor and you are running Traktor Scratch Pro
    All playlists etc are unchanged

    Side-by-side install is not necessary

    I'm amazed that I'm considering the purchase of this thing. I already have the DDJ-SZ, but I do like the workflow of this thing. I'll see what happens.
