    Unless you like hosing all of your settings. Downgrading requires rebuilding your collection and it eats settings including all keyboard mappings, all midi mappings, and all layouts. Re-upgrading didn't help. Had to delete the tsi settings file under Documents\Native Instruments\Traktor and go back to default settings. Now my keyboard works again (even arrow key mappings were destroyed upon downgrading) but apparently all settings and custom mappings are gone. Luckily the downgrade did backup the 1.1.1 collection.nml file. Thanks NI.

    Yes I realise now this is what happened to me. I restored to a point before I installed 1.1.1 and reverted to 1.0.2. I lost all my settings and my playlists! Totally gutted.

    Which is why it's always a good idea to back up the Traktor folder before doing any updates.

    Back Up Back Up Back Up Back Up Back Up .

    That may not be very helpful guys but before each and every change to your software you must Back Up. Its The Law Around These Parts.

    Yup, was dumb of me. But it's also bad programming. The fact that I would expect anything more out of the Traktor team makes me twice the idiot. Nonetheless, I thought I would post to keep others from making the same mistake.

    @Simon,
    Your playlists are in your collection. When you downgraded 1.0.2 should have saved your 1.1.1 collection because it realizes its from a "future version." Go to your Traktor folder in Documents\Native Instruments and you will find a collection_backup_unsupported.nml file. Rename it collection.nml when you reinstall 1.1.1 and everything (collection wise) will be back to normal.

    Out of curiosity I did some digging and I have to half-agree with you; NI really should have SAID something when the new version was released. Still, it's essential to back up your files whenever doing an update, be it Windows, Mac, Traktor, SSL, you name it. I guess it's the IT technician in me; I always have at least two backups of any current configuration.

    Acording to my experience, you're right in everything except with Mac. I'm not a long time user, but in two years, i've never had a single problem and i've performed all their updates... While with windows I always had to keep a thousand eyes on everything, and reinstalling everything quite often to mantain the system healthy. With traktor it is very similar, you get used to have fear when there's an update and you need to analyze every single bit before performing the operation to try keep your stuff safe... You have to be months watching the forums and observing what other people experiences before adventuring yourself to make the jump. Is that normal?

    I don't have experience with SSL.

    In my time among Macs, transitions between sofware versions have always been transparent, never found ugly surprises, never lost anything. It's a situation where you quickly feel confortable and safe. Of course I keep the windows experience in your back and use to be careful, but fellows, this is not the way things should be... During these two years, i've made only one clean reinstall when i bought Leopard, but it was for this kind of reminiscent paranoia of having been a windows user and thinking 'it should be better to make a clean install'. I use my computer for audio edition, live performance with traktor, internet surfing, etc... i have no antivirus, no firewall... and i've never had a single problem. Of course i'm exposed to suffer anything, anytime, however I know they really care in this sense.

    - it - simply - works -

    In fact I think apple it's the example every software company should follow, as I may have said a hundred times in this forum...

    My apologies but after taking microsoft out of my life i've become a simple user, and a hater of the 'workaround and continuous patching' culture they try to impose!

    Only half true. My buddy renames his old version before jumping to a newer one. That way, he still has the old iterations incase the updates are buggy.

    It still counts, you're just ensuring the new install doesn't overwrite it.

    Renaming Folders OR Backing Up is just the same. However it is prudent that all users make a Backup and preferably on a different Hard Drive to that you are using originally because you then have a complete Back Up if and when another problem arrises with your laptop such as a virus, hardware fault or you spill beer in the laptop.
