An off-the-shelf version of win 7 install (proprietary versions from Dell etc. do stuff you don't want behind the scenes without you knowing, which causes issues with DVS software) do the optimising tips from NI. I did some stuff recommended from blackviper.com and also disabled the aero themes and wi-fi. I'm very happy with my latency (1.5 ms) and have never had a shutdown/crash with Traktor.

I have Windows 7 64 BIT.... No problems what so ever, in fact I like it better than Windows XP. Runs smoother, quick installs, no hassels! I'm running Traktor Pro, two Kontrols X1's, Audio 8, and a Numark Total Control. My Lappy is an ASUS Pentium duel core, 2.4 GHZ, 4 GIGS of RAM. I like Windows 7 cause it was my idea! HAHA!

I'm running TSP on Win 7 64bit ultimate, ASUS laptop 2.0 Ghz C2D, Audio 4... and I have some drop-outs every now and then, even though my latency is set to a "safe" 7.5 ms.
I found out that Win7 has some processes in the background that disturb the audio (not just Traktor, but also itunes, windows media player, etc..) especially svchost (networking etc..), even though bluetooth and wifi are turned off.

Win 7 is pretty stable though, way better than vista, but not perfect (as I found out).

And by the way, if you think that the internal HDD space might be insufficient for you in the near future, upgrade from now since it's a new laptop and it's relatively easy to copy your data. Don't go for external HDD.

Win7 and Traktor work great together, and for a multicore CPU I definitely recommend Win7 or at least Vista. However, an i3 CPU is pretty low end so you may have some issues regardless of operating system.

It has more than enough power for Traktor. You may have to tweak it a bit though (Dells are notorious for DPC latency problems).
Still, as long as you can follow a few instructions and don't mind tinkering a bit you should be able to get it to work.

    Will it work? Yes.

Do I recommend it? Absolutely not.

fanboyisms aside, speaking as a Scratch DJ/Turntablist: Traktor works far better on a mac....but 7 is certainly better than Vista.

You've got a laptop, it should work. It does on mine and many many others. Give it a go before you run off down the Apple store like an iSheep who finds two mouse buttons too difficult. Or a car owner who opens the bonnet and then cacks himself.

I run Traktor on a DELL without any issues at all. It runs flawlessly

However I can't run an NI interface ... and many other PC users have issues with NI audio hardware too ....

Traktor runs perfectly on my DELL with any other soundcard. I can run 4 decks, full FX, Maschine synced with CPU headroom to spare .... Ableton8, Reason5 also no problems ....

...or, have multiple instances of Traktor running side by side....and find out that there is more latency on your windows machine which causes you to be unable to perform your everyday basic techniques properly (particularly extended quick chirps).

this is true with Traktor, SSL, and Itch....yet oddly, not true with Mixvibes Cross. Cross works just as well on Windows as it does on OS X.

@ lethal_pizzle: lol, have a look under the bonnet of my 1973 Datsun 240Z...where you'll find a Toyota Supra 2JZGE, mated to an R32 Skyline diff using a custom driveshaft. I didn't build the driveshaft...but I did install everything myself.

    I didn't even cack myself...whatever that means :p

I was trolling mate, plus I don't drive so I've got no idea what you're talking about
    ---
My point is, if it works, no need to buy a new computer
    ---
Although, of course, the OP could have learned this by looking at any of the loads of identical threads on this, and saved us all the hassle of debating this again.

Right, off to find the Nicorette gum before my head explodes, sorry all

haha, it's cool yo. it was mostly just ironic that you used a car analogy...because i've been around auto and aviation repair my entire life :p

but yeah, i stand by my statement....it works on windows most definitely, but not quite as good as on osx. so i can't "recommend" it....but i always suggest it to those on a budget ;)

i'm a bit odd, definitely somewhat of a 'tech junkie' and i have a tendancy to try almost everything i can possibly think of. so i'm not your average 'mac fanboy' just assuming that mac>windows..

..but i can say in all my experience (and wonky experiments) that as far as Traktor (and most all other DVS) is concerned:

    mac IS > windows

    :p
