I am thinking about getting one when they hit the stores (which should be any day now). I am curious if anyone who has one has any thoughts about it.

Amazing to browse, loop play etc but need something else like the Maschine or DJTechtools Midi Fighter for beat juggling!

Im liking the X1 so far. It certainly frees up having to touch the laptop. Im using time-code vinyls so browsing and loading tracks through your list is easier. The only issue is you cant use it to browse through folders. Control of the effects is great too.

Yeah I am really enjoying mine as well... basically everything that beatbydrum said I agree with as I use it with timecode vinyl as well!

Very responsive, and it's definitely changed the game for me. It allows me to cue tracks faster than just with vinyl as I don't have to reset the needle everytime I want to re-cue, as well as allowing me to use it like an MPC to add acapellas and punch-ins while I mix!

Sounds good. Are you using it on decks C&D with timecode on A&B ?

hmm nope, I am using it on A&B along with the timecoded decks, i thought I had to have 2 kontrols in order to use it with C&D?

Oh right, i figured you maybe triggering your acapellas and stuff on Deck C&D whilst playing timecode on A&B.
Yeah for full control over 4 decks you would need 2 X1s but you can control decks C&D with the X1 by making a tsi that shifts to decks C&D but until i get mine im just surmising about how to do it.

nope i just meant I'm able to play acapellas etc on top of tracks already playing, but can do it much faster now that I don't need to necessarily scratch the acapellas in.. you know what I mean.. I love triggered cue points! haha

Anyways i also only have a 3 channel mixer so I wouldn't be able to have all 4 decks plugged in, and I also wouldn't have the first idea on how to make a tsi to shift to decks C&D! haha!
Thats one of the reasons that I picked up the Kontrol, so that I wouldn't have to midi-map the thing, don't have the patience for that kinda stuff! but i'm definitely interested in seeing how it's done when you get yours! You ordering 2 or just 1?

If you run 2 of the X1's will you be able to have full control of 2 advanced effects running on both decks A & B? It seems like you should. Might be a stupid question but I'm not good at the midi setup or it might just be a built in feature if you have 2 X1's. If it can do this then the Kaoss Pad 3 is going on craigslist today.

a second one would be great for the extra use of decks C+D. Its definitely a fun piece of hardware to go along with the DVS. Does anyone know if you can buy that carry case separately from the NI shop? They did not have it at the store where i bought mine

I like them (in the 2 hours I've used them so far). Build is excellent and the cases are nice.

The main annoyance is when you change the view to browse and find a track, I would really have preferred the screen to change back to the deck layout once I click 'load'.

I'm sure I can change the mapping but it really should have been mapped that way in the first place. Why on earth would you want to stay in the browser view once you've loaded a tune?

Great for basic transport and effects lay out, but I agree with Pierre de Lux that the hot cues are just ok, but then again for the price....

i waas thinkin the same about browsers. so i went into midi mode and mapped that and a few other things there.

i agree with the cue pads, they do their job well, but i prefer my akai mpd32 to juggle the cues with, but im more than happy to settle for my 2 x1s!

Give this a whirl mate... Its a prototype and test map so its not perfect The Native map is standard in this one. Switch to MIDI <SHIFT + HOTCUE> to get to the Beat matching stuff. This is two deck map too BTW. I'm working on the dual controller maps.
    • In Midi mode the FX knobs do XONE EQ.
    • Upper push encoder = Beat Jump | Push and turn = Jump Loop Move size
    • Lower push encoder = Loop Move | Push and turn = Loop Size Select
    • Beat Buttons = Transport move < > | shift = move fine Use to adjust phase sync or to line up a track
    • In = Loop Set with selected size
    • Out = Loop Activate / Deactivate - In Out Buttons flash alternately when loop is acitve but you are outside the loop region. If you have a loop ahead of you somewhere in the track simply press out and the playhead will play into the loop and hold there. When you are in the loop the buttons lights lock on to show you that you in the loop. The flashing is intended to warn you that you have a loop active but that you are not in it. Press out when inside a loop region but its not active and you will play that loop. Use Native Mode loops to set loops manually.
    • Sync = Sync The button flashes when playing if sync is not on.
    • Shift Left encoders = Adjust master Tempo | upper = fine - Lower = coarse adjust

Things to note if you plan to customize the map. Because the Push encoder perform a shift like function You get multiple shift modes per deck to allow you to overload (double-up) the control functions. I have found overloading makes control maps hard to use, go carefully.

Theres more in it but these are probably the more interesting bits. The MIDI setup is more for Beatmatch play and the Native mode is intended more mash-up play.
