i put it in midi mode. from there i went to controller midi manager. click the add button, and go to the browser section. then the tree section. select your functions from there.

i played my first 4 hour set with a pair of x1s last night. it was freakin fantastic! had no hang ups except my screen would hiccup when i would trigger or browse effects. audio was fine, though im a bit nervous about recording (via audio 8 ext in) my entire set while using both for such an extended amount of time. i was using 2 time coded vinyls, 4 ch mixer, and the macbook listed in my sig.

i totally need to map some grid control to this thing in midi mode. i also need to sit down and read the manual in ts entirety to understand its full potential. i dig the seek function too. i used to beat jump 32 when i would forget to loop, but now i can just click the seek knob 4 times, and it seems to be working great.

THe setup looks really really slick in the dark too. i got tons of compliments about my new toys all night :D

Did you import the TSI to add just the controller map Make sure you set your ports correctly once you've imported it. I just reimported the midi map and it worked fine. when you have it setup you will have two controller maps for your X1 one for Native mode and one for Midi mode. To switch your controller into Midi mode press shift and hotcue at the same time. Hot cue will stay lit when in MIDI Mode.

    Did that help?

How do you map in midi mode? is there any way to map in midi mode to use the browse knobs to scroll through the tree and click them to expand?

Rolls eyes  The sample I provided does exactly that. There are actually two samples with slightly different modes of operation try left and right side encoders.

    I finally got one today.

It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Very professional feeling equipment. I used it tonight for about 2 hours. Lights are nice and bright. Shift option works great. I wish you could browse through folders/tree as well. Over 7000 tracks in my current collection. I do not want to put any other TSI in there to mess it up.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new controller.
I am also fortunate enough to have all the blue and orange lights match my Zero 8's lights. :)

You can do it in MIDI mode which will NOT affect your Native mode map. I run the stock Native Map and just created a custom MIDI MAP. The thing is too that the Native map has all the same controls and functions as MIDI, it just has easier to remember names that matches up with the UI and controller mangler.

tried adding that map and it only imports as a keyboard map and will only focus on the keyboard too.

    confused to say the least.

Yes apologies to you all. I've managed to screw-up the export. Indeed it did contain only the keyboard map. Ill fix it tomorrow night. I've pulled the sample in the meantime.

    Just got mine yesterday.
Feel and looks are great. I would prefer bigger PLAY and CUE buttons to be bigger cause you shouldnt need to look to find them...
Furthermore, I need to do something with the seeking....cause using TRAKTOR PRO (not any CDJs or Vinyls) I still need to touch mousepad to SNAP on the beat in the beggining of the track etc....

I think it's a really nice piece of equipment.

A fellow complained about the feel of the buttons. I disagree with that. They feel nice for me (all this is personal taste anyway) and enables you to be preciseon the clicks.

set a load marker at the place you want each track to start, then use the hotcue buttons to jump to there. thats what ive been doing anyway.

    Question:

How is this controller for moving cue points around, unquantized? I've watched a few video tutorials so I have a fair idea how it works, it seems really cool but it seems to be lacking in this area (non quantized mixing). If I put a track in that hasn't been perfectly 'gridded' before and say it gets the cue point even just a little bit off (usually goes a bit after the beat), can you move the cue point finely to the left?

I see that Snap and Quantize can be turned off, so it would make sense if the Seek knob could move finely with Quantize turned off but I don't think it does... if it doesn't then what's the point of turning off Snap/Quantize?

Obviously you can map things different in MIDI mode but wondering is it geared towards doing this by default. Also, an important question is what do the endless rotaries send in MIDI mode? IE do they sent relative data in MIDI mode also?

In short yes you can move cues but its not just a function of the controller. The real magic is in the controller commands you use. You can customize controller maps to do pretty much whatever you want. If you can do it in Midi you can also do it in Native mode and you can almost certainly find a way to do it on the X1.

I've the working borwser sample to my message above again, Once again apologies for the earlier screwup.

right, sorry to be a pain phil, ive downloaded the working browser sample 001, and ive imported it to traktor as an extra midi device and assigned the ports to kontrol x1 on the in and out.

after switching to midi via shift and hotcue (hotcue turns green) i should be able to browse the playlist tree using the upper encoder which is the browse and load encoder?

    is that correct?

still cant seem to get it working, but i most definately reckon its something i'm doing wrong as am still a bit of a newbie with maps n that.

    No Problems mate,
Can you add a new control (XFader would do) Set it to learn and try out each encoder. Make a note of the channel and CC value that each encoder produces and post em up here.
