I'm close to upgrading to Cubase 4, but wonder whether Kontakt 2 will still work as it should. It is my main vsti and I understand that issues sometimes arise when upgrading hosts. Thanks for any insight.

It should work...I'm just guessing based on the fact that Cubase is a major platform and the VST implementation should be the same. I don't know anyone who actually has C4 yet so I don't know firsthand.

I`m currently EXTREMELY frustrated. In my brandnew installation of Cubase 4 Kompakt and Kontakt 1.2 work but Kontakt 2.1 won't even show up as a VSTi. It works in standalone mode though and the DLL is in the right place...

    Quote from here: http://knowledgebase.steinberg.de/147_1.html :
Can I still use my existing plug-ins and instruments?
Yes. Existing VST 2.4 plug-ins and instruments are fully compatible with Cubase 4. Any plug-in or instrument older than VST 2.4 must be tested and potentially updated.

    Note: Kontakt V2.1 is a VST 2.3 plugin ...

Well then Kontakt 2 urgently needs an update...
    I just crosschecked:
on the same pc system with the exact same kontakt 2 installation the plugin works correctly under cubase sx 3 but doesn`t even show up under cubase 4.01.

    :-(

    Wow, that's interesting news!
Help me out if you can:
    Did you do anything special?
Are you on a PC or a Mac? I`m using a PC with XP Home SP2 currently....

Here is my Folder set up.

In my "Program Files" Folder, I have a "Steinberg" Folder

In that "Steinberg" Folder I have these Folders

    Asio
    Cubase 4
    Cubase SX3
VST Plugins ( My kontakt2.dll is in this folder)

If your Kontackt2 is in a diiferent folder, in Cubase4, go to "Devices" menu, select "Plug-in Information"
You will see "VST 2 x Plug-in Paths"
Click on that, then "Add" then browse to the Folder that K2 is in.

    I hope this helps

Hey triangle, big thanks for your efforts!

    The weird thing is:
I have the very same paths and setup. program versions and everything. Yet: no K2 in C4.01...
I'm away from the computer/net now over the weekend, will check again on monday, maybe somebody comes up with an idea in the meantime.

    All the best!

    I've just installed C4 and so far no problems with Kontakt2 (version 2.1.1.001). I'm on a Mac G5 dual 1.8G w/ OS 10.4.8.

kontakt 2 kindof works here. no matter what version of the plugin i choose (kontakt2, kontakt2_16out, kontakt2_8out), i only get one pair of stereo outs in my mixer. this is when selecting kontakt from the VST Instruments panel, NOT creating an instrument track (which is always stereo, afaik).

anyone else seeing this? if so… has anyone figured out a way to get multiple outputs back?

someone over on the cubase.net forums answered my question. in the VST Instruments panel there is a new button that allows you to turn on/off plugin outputs to save cpu. by default, it only turns on the first stereo pair.

there's still no true surround output, but maybe we'll get lucky and the ub upgrade will slip in an upgrade to the vst3 spec and we'll finally get easy management of outputs and true surround.

Kontack works fine in CB 4 for me. I think the main thing is doing the installation correctly. I'm having an issue with opening SX3 songs in that the multis show up as a surround setting and so far can't be changed. I don't know if this is CB4 or Kontakt. However evrything works as expected with new projects started in CB4

thats handy - i've always hated having a million outputs on my cubase mixer when i dont use them. so i guess this means that you can have Kontakt 2 setup so you can have 10 stereo outputs and 10 mono outputs (or whatever is the most you think you would use) and just turn off and hide the outputs you don't need?

I found that installing C4 means you have to rebuild your library. Apart from that, no problems.

    HALLELUJAH i found a solution!

albeit it was a weird one:
the path to the vst-plugins was set two times by cubase (i didn`t do anything with it and have no idea how this occured).
once the normal way "C:\programs\steinberg\vstplugins" and then in cryptic DOS-writing (something like "C:\progr~1\vstpl~1").
I deleted the DOS-path in cubase and voilá: Kontakt 2 is back.
As I said: weird!! As the "DOS path incident" didn't seem to affect any other plugins...

Nonetheless: major thumbs up to everybody who tried to help, posted and confirmed that K2 was probably not the problem...
