If all you have on a controller are endless knobs, a cross fader and push-buttons, what can be used to "scratch" . Actually like a sort of Jog Scratch + Tempo Bend control but endless.

I've achieved pretty bad results with the Seek control, which can be set really fine but it still feels "stepped". Moreover I can't seem to seek beyond a bracket within the tune, like a loop only inside which I can seek. Plus, the center of the "seek loop" is not the needle, which makes in impossible to seek through an entire track.

What I'm think I'm looking for is to avoid having min/max values for the endless knobs. Can I change 0 to 127 to -∞ to +∞ somehow? But I'm very new to doing custom maps so maybe not.

The practical example of what I'm trying to do is to use an endless knob on my controller to find the kick in the track (with a lot of control over where the needle is on the tune).

edit: phrasing and grammar. Hope I'm making myself clear, because English is not my mother tongue.

I may be incorrect but I highly doubt you'll have a fine enough resolution from your knobs to give you the smooth "scratch" audio you desire.

I fear that as well, but I don't need to be able to realistically simulate a scratch. I just need to be able to "search" through a portion (of my choosing) of a track, in very very small increments so I can find the kick and drop a CUE marker.

i see. i think "scrubbing" is the more appropriate term for what you desire. i recall trying to do a similar thing long ago with a Tascam controller, and if i remember correctly i was also unsuccessful. however i am not familiar with your controller so i really cannot say for sure.

do they offer a forum at novation where you can ask about scrubbing through tracks/waveforms? i doubt you'll need to ask this as a Traktor-specific question.

Novation does have a user forum but it's kind of deserted. Hardly anyone eve`r posts there.

Endless encoder may have something like 20-40 pulse per revolution... it's way too low to do any kind of scratch. Even to cue a track it's low.

Isn't there a way I can cue a track without having to use my mouse? In all other respects, the Nocturn from Novation is a fantastic controller.

Your controller does have buttons, doesn't it?

Prefs > Mixer > Monitor Cue.

You've completely misunderstood what I want to achieve and clearly did not read my initial post, let alone the entire thread.

I want to use a knob to scrub through the waveform to find a kick so I can dtop a cue marker and not pre listen to the track I'm cueing.

    Thanks for trying to help...

Look for seek function in the midi mapping. but from what I remember, it work with increments, might be good or not.

maybe you can use seek in conjunction with having "snap" activated to move from one detected beat to the next?

i'll have to give it a try when i get home...

I tried this and it does work in increments and even if I can get it to work in REALLY SMALL increments, it still is unusable.

Often times I will need to drop a cue in between the detected beats. Plus I have deactivated the option to have Traktor assign a beatgrid on track analysis.

Last option I see, along with Seek, I think you could use a modifier to switch to "Scratch" mode to fine tune your cueing. How useable it will be on the spot? I don't know buddy. There's some times Jog Wheels have their own advantages.
