    Hi,
I'm currently doing a research regarding netlabels, and I'd like to discuss a bit about them here. I'm particularly interested in netlabels that distribute via creative commons.

    Some points of interest:

    - For how long have you been downloading music from netlabels?
    - What are your favourite netlabels? Why?
    - How have netlabels changed the way you perceive the music "industry"? Are they an influence in the way you acquire/distribute your music?
    - Are you actively supporting the netlabels scene?
    - How have netlabels changed the way you listen to music?
    - What do you think artists gain out of the netlabel scene?

To mention just a few to get started, I hope this brings a dynamic discussion that grows on its own.

Thanks for your time and help.

Hey, I thought this forum would be full of people interested in the netlabel movement.

    Guess I was wrong-

Tom, Give people time to read it the forums are generally very quiet over the weekend. Many people here play at clubs so the weekend is their busy time and will be tied up most of the weekend with their activities.

2nd: The net labels issue is interesting, but many or most of the Traktor DJ's here source from places like Beatport, Traxsource, DJ Download, Stompy, XpressBeats, iTunes or one of the many other Music Download Services. The FS guys will also likely so source part of their library from conventional vinyl providers. To my knowledge only a very few DJ's are members of record pools today. The cost is high relative to the benefits received for the DJ's here and the music many have for the club styles most DJ's here play is generally quite thin. The pools make money promoting volume sales and not too many Traktor DJ's here spin commercial top-40.

I Think part of the Net Labels issue is there is no good reliable place to go to get a listing (we are aware of, YET. There will be soon but it will take time to grow the list online.

    Phil

It's been a long weekend... and I wonder if there it is no interest yet in the netlabel scene, and the free culture movement here

As you can see, in www.beatpick.com you can buy tracks in .wav which are sold to you with a CC license so you can share them.

for free (as in freedom), you can find some very nice techno at www.unfoundsounds.com, and as you can read on their site: "in addition, we explicitely authorize the use of the unfoundsound releases during for-profit DJ performances."

There are some great mixes using the netlabel music at www.mixotic.net

some more nice music to mix at www.inoquo.com and www.offaudio.com

and yes, there are lots of people making hit lists now!

http://podgalego.org/node/113 (I'm sorry, this is in galician)
    www.blocsonic.com
    http://cchits.ning.com/hits/
    http://mogwai.de/

and no, netlabels don't have a way to get their music to the top 40, nor they have a record pool. maybe you meant a mailing list?

you can check some more free music by checking out my public bookmarks at http://del.icio.us/BiChin/netlabel

hope that if any of you can find some more good music for mixing you can share it with all of us by posting the links here!

    best
