I have found out that sometimes Traktor has 2 references to the same file in the track collection.

I think I know by what this is caused: letter casing.

Traktor seems to distinguish files based on their letter casing whereas windows does not (the two files mentioned below can not exist in the same directory according to windows).

    C:\DjCollection\The Chemical Brothers - Do It Again.mp3
    C:\DjCollection\the chemical brothers - do it again.mp3

The duplication in the Traktor database might have happened when I renamed the file after it was already imported into the collection.

    plz fix this

Which version are you using? The first TPro versions had this bug where tracks double every time you delete them. It is fixed in the current version.

Hmm the doubling tracks bug is definitely fixed in your version so it must be a different issue :/

If you had altered the file outside of Traktor the file would show as missing with '!' next to it.

Do you Edit tracks inline in Traktor?

I think windows would allow a duplicate like that anyway.

A good way to find and delete duplicates is to use iTunes. This has a 'Show Duplicates' Feature and you can delete doubles. I fouund 9 versions of the exact same song once. Then when you have deleted the duplicates they will show as missing in Traktor and you can delete them from the collection.

It would, only if Traktor couldn't find it. But Traktor asks the Windows API is file x here, it will check the file path regardless of the file casing. So it will return true for both files.

Yes I do (I also edit them before importing with MP3Tag), but that has nothing to do with the problem I'm reporting

No it wouldn't, just try to copy a file (file1.txt) within the same directory ("Copy of file1.txt") and try to rename it back to the same filename only with a caption change (FILE1.txt).

This only helps when there are two FILES and two Traktor references.
In the problem I'm describing there is ONE FILE and two Traktor references to this same file.

    Hi,
I'm using the same version and Traktor duplicates tracks often. I have set it so that Traktor does not import tracks upon startup. I think that's where the duplication was taking place. However, I don't yet know how to import files manually. So can someone please drop me an answer about how to do that? Also, one point that I noticed regarding the duplication was this; Traktor seemed to duplicate the same files for a while, meaning it wouldn't duplicate every file just certain one that it seemed to like. Bizarre!
