I've never done drum layering before in Maschine. I attempted to recently, and wow that did not work out.

I have a Mikro MK3, and I was of the impression that I should be able to layer drums, one onto another. I see there's a link mode, and there's a choke mode, but I'm told that neither is drum layering.

I looked around, and even attempted to read the hardware manual. Most of the demos and explanations seem to be for the bigger hardware like the MK2/MK3 and Studio. Also, not sure if I have to do it from the software to make that happen.

If I can be pointed to some resources, or at least get some answers here, on how to make what I'd like to have happen possible, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Then you were told wrong, you can make a link group and set one master the others to slave. Now if you trigger the master the slave(s) get triggered too, that way you can layer sounds and maybe resample it if you're happy with the sound and save it as single user sample.

not that he was "told wrong" or that he even has unrealistic expectations. "layering" via link groups (and giving up slots to do so) is a bit different than some other applications (MPC, etc) where you can layer different sounds on one pad. both have their pros and cons, but the end result is generally the same. re-sampling and "bouncing down" to one pad is a good suggestion though.

there's a number of different ways around this though, by using a VST one one pad that can layer sounds in itself.

I'm new to Maschine and Mikro MK3 so I may be thinking of this wrong. But when I think of layering, I think of creating a pattern, recording a kick drum, then "layering" a snare drum, etc....

Is that what the OP is about or something else?

He’s talking about laying drums on top of each other like two kicks , then blending the sounds together , then resampling it to make a new kick

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I was speaking of layering, say, two kick onto one another. It doesn't seem that it can be done from the hardware, so I did manage to do it from the software. Now I'll just have to get better acquainted with EQ and other adjustments to give the kick some punch (and also clean up the low end), and then maybe resample. I'll have to work that one out. I appreciate the assistance!
