I'm a songwriter/producer based in NYC, please see my website here:

    www.alexanderperls.com

I'm looking to hire a funky programmer (anywhere on earth with a high speed internet connection) who can do drums and instrumentation in the style of:

    Madonna 'Holiday' or 'Borderline'
    Gwen Stefani 'Serious'

I've got the song and vocal track all ready to go -- you can hear it here:

    http://www.perlstrax.com/transfer_rock_tonight/

I'm pretty computer literate, so I would suggest we work this way.

    1) I post a stereo AIFF file of the vocals for you, and give you the tempo

    2) You come up with lots of ideas, and instead of doing a 'final' mix in your studio, you upload to me all the separate tracks as 24 bit stems -- for example, if you've got a great keyboard track, that's one AIFF file, your drum programming is another AIFF file, etc. You would also send me a demo MP3 mixdown so I can hear your proposed mix as well..... for this it's important that you know what you are doing with FTP and know how to make correct 24 bit AIFF files without problems

    3) I do the final mix here in NYC, probably I'll end up looping and messing with what you send me a bit.

I'm offering to pay a day-rate for this workk --- explicitly all the publishing and songwriting rights would remain with me, should for some reason the artist/label I pitch this to want to use your production, I will happily to put them in touch with you, I won't claim to own any of your production work for anything but demo purposes. We can sign something to that effect before we start.

The deadline is 1 week from today for the AIFF files to actually appear in my incoming FTP box.

If you are interested, please send demo mp3s of recent work directly to me -- please send only in this style, rock or hip hip isn't going to help me -- perls@alexanderperls.com

I'd like to find a demo production partner who I can work with on lots of upcoming stuff, so I'd like this to be the beginning of a working relationship.

    thanks

The song sounds really like 'Holiday' - trying to get the beats to sound like that is going to make it sound like a total rip-off.
Isn't there enough of this stuff already? Reaktor was designed for pushing boundaries. I'm not saying "start making bleeping noises that make ears bleed", but the communist in me is protesting. You seem like a fairly successful person already (judging by your website), and you've made a very serious post. Why not have a go at learning to use Reaktor yourself and use your skills as a songwriter to do something a little less mundane?
Anyone else on here dare to back me up and make a tit of themselves in front of the world?

Reaktor was designed to be a flexible tool. If that means, for example, making a synth that sounds generic, but customized to your tastes, then so be it. I don't think you should project your concepts on what the program is for, on to others. Its rather rude to lecture this guy, and I don't see what you're trying to accomplish by doing so.

well, i am old enough to not be a "child of Thatcher" don't know if that helps you ;-)

what i will say though, is less than a week to do all this (send mp3s, be seected, do the work) is asking a lot.

I'll back sowari up on this one. Why do people think the quick buck in remaking or just ripping off, allready done music is really worth it. Why even bother using Reaktor to make this when there are a million machines with built in "Holiday" style beats and riffs.

my guess is that perls put out queries to several daw forums (reason, fl studio, live, etc.) looking for someone who could help him out with this project. since he's not getting good energy from this forum, he's probably long gone ...

i agree that reaktor is not a great choice for a program to do conventional commercial instrumentation. but perhaps he was thinking that someone in this forum has the necessary skills to use different software to do it.

Not a moment was he thinking. He even posted this crap to the OD forum, and to the LUG. A successful producer / songwriter from NYC that can't find a partner in his little hometown (let alone all his inernational chart breakers and the contacts those must have brought him) - I'd say leave the song as it is, Alex. Good enough already... try changing the singer!

whats with all the hostility? The guy was just looking for a little help. It could have given someone a good chance to break in, and make a contact for future work.

You're acting like he desecrated this precious forum...

yeah, what's up? you'll notice that all us nicey-nice friendly folks in open discussion didn't make a single snide response. how's that for a shock?

Yep, I really wondered what was wrong with OD - but seeing it all over Maggie made up for it. As for hostility - wasn't meant hostile at all. I just looked at the facts and found them as bizarre as muscle powder.

    "crap"

and that isnt a snide little remark?

Look, no one had to respond to this topic. You all are going out of your way to put down a guy, when it really isnt nessasary. He wasn't rude or anything like that. He was looking for help.

I can't really fathom why people would respond as they did, but it comes across as being elitist, both musically, and technologically. "how dare he make THAT type of music, and want to use THIS program."

Had he asked for help designing a super-convoluting-phaseshifting-granular-fluxcapacitor ensemble, I'm sure it wouldn't have been a problem with you guys, am I wrong?

A little more tact would do you all good.

ah, being bitter and jaded are really the only common bonds between everyone on a forum like this! i agree with rick, he probably just posted to every forum he was registered in hoping for a helpful reply. that said, if someone is gonna do that without checking what the general mood and gist of said forum is, then i cant feel bad when people decide to wave the elitist "IDM/i-program-my-own-songs-from-the-VST-plugins-up" flag in his face in his face. im just suprised they didnt have a field day with the post in the OD forum, i kinda thought confused forum-newbies were like flies to a spider over there.

wow, well maybe this is the wrong forum for me.

I was expecting a nice environment where people helped each other out.

it seemed obvious that he wouldn't be back, so why bother? i'm sure rick's assessment is right.

od likes confused newcomers because many of these individuals are more than willing to join in the snarking, and it gets to be a good round of wit-sharpening for all parties involved. most of the repeat customers in od were confused newcomers at some point, and we all got snarked on. i really don't think it's hostile, because most od people plant very helpful suggestions and answers in their seemingly off-topic and bizarre replies. if the new entrant has a sense of humor and jokes back, everyone is very friendly.

Just read the specs - one week deadline, no rights whatsoever, being paid on a "daily basis" - by whom and how? That's everything but professional. Pure muscle powder.

Erm... its called a work for hire (no rights, you're paid for your work and then thats it) which is quite common. Its also quite common to have very short deadlines for such things. For example, people who score TV shows have a week to do an entire episode, so one drum track is NOT asking a lot.

I'm sure he also would have given more details about payment, had someone shown insterest and contacted him.

Facts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don’t do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things
    Facts don’t stain the furniture
Facts go out and slam the door
Facts are written all over your face
Facts continue to change their shape.
