I will be purchasing a MacBook soon and would like to run it as a dual boot... OSX/WinXP. If I install Komplete on both Operating Systems will it eat up both of my registrations? Since both Operating Systems are on the same Hard Drive will the machine ID be the same, and will that make a difference? Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

this will generate two different system ids, so you will have to spend two activations for this scenario, since the operating system is part of the activation scheme.

I thought that the license agreement only covered the hardware. Can someone point me to the bit which says this isn't allowed?

    Hi Purusha,

this might have to do with the fact that, at the time when our copy protection have been implemented, it was not so common that users would install an Apple and Windows operating system on the same computer. On the other side, you will also see the same when installing Windows XP and Windows Vista on the same machine. This was one of the reasons why we enhanced the allowed installations for Kore and Komplete 4 to three. It could also be argued that the operating system is such a substantial part of your computer that we include this in our activation scheme.

    Hi Chris,

here is the according paragraph from the license agreement which is displayed when installing our software:

    3. Scope of use

Native Instruments grants the Licensee, the non-exclusive right to use the Licensed software and hardware on one single computer only (i.e. one CPU) at one single place. If this single computer is connected to a multi-user system, this License shall apply to all users of the system.

The Licensee may personally use the licensed software or hardware temporarily on another computer, on condition that the said software and hardware is normally used regularly on one particular computer. Use above and beyond these limits is not permissible.

The proper use of the licensed software according to the terms of this agreement is condition for Licensee's right to use it.

OK, so if I read that correctly, it's tied to the hardware, not the OS?

In which case, it should be possible to dual-boot.

I can say from experience, since my desktop is XP/Vista dual-booting, that Traktor and Massive activate OK using the same activation slot from the XP installation. I'm not sure about K4, and the OS-X / Vista issue doesn't surprise me. The APIs for getting at the hardware IDs are probably totally different.

I take it the following won't be a problem, then:
Running dual-boot XP pro and home on a desktop PC, activated several NI (Akoustik, Battery, Guitar Rig) on both and looking to install them on a laptop (if possible in dual boot XP config as well).
    Am I covered?

    gracias

    Hi !

    Different question:

What happens if the OS changes on the same machine and system drive ?

    a)
Win XP Home Sp1 is updated to Win XP Home Sp2

    b)
Win XP Home will be replaced by Win XP pro

Do I have to authorize/activate all new if I upgrade to Komplete 5 then?

What happens to the older and discontinued plugs in this case, p.ex. the ones I have authorisation codes for and backuped on my machine?

    regards

The SP1 to SP2 routine won't call for a reauthorization (or at least it never has with my system).

XP Home to XP Pro probably would require reauthorization, I'd think.

    Oooops !
That sounds like a lot of upcoming work.

Maybe I´m wrong (please correct me if neccessary),-

for me this looks like a complete new install of my basic Komplete pre-launch edition with all the followed up updates and upgrades (Komplete 2>updates>Komplete 3 upgrade>updates>Komplete 4>updates ...),- this w/ different protection routines like serials, Komplete 2 and 3 keyfiles, GR 2, Kontact 2 and Reaktor 5 auth keys and the new serials for EP 1.5, Pro53, Vocator and Spectral Delay.

Will Service Center accept this flawlessly and authorize all this without probs if the same system drive is used ?

I hoped this OS change could be handled by doing an image of the complete DAW´s applications installation, installing a pro version of XP32 incl. Sp2 and playing the image back.

This is exactly my planned scenario. I currently run XP and Vista in a dual-boot configuration on my desktop. I recently got a Macbook Pro which I plan to dual-boot with XP. If I install K4 into each of these, it would mean 4 different registrations, though in fact I can't ever run more than 2 concurrently and I'm only running on 2 different machines.

Will this be managed? Is it an acceptable scenario?

    Thanks

    Hi Delgado,

this is an acceptable scenario. The license agreement speaks about a license bound to a "computer" and not a specific operation system on this computer.
