Hello, I am attempting to learn to produce dubby techno goodness using logic 7 and komplete 7.

Any suggestions on how to create the ideal sounding synth stabs or other sounds such as the deep kick drum or indeed some bass sounds?

Just thought id ask as im stuck for ideas...

i am a little out of touch with moves and trends in dubby techno, can you point me towards some current artists that might have tracks uploaded on YouTube?

for kicks try Pastikick and dr_bassdrum in the User Library. in fact, just typing in kick in the UL search engine will bring a load of choices.

I do love dubby techno, but I pretty much stopped buying new tracks because I have hours of old tracks, and the new stuff doesn't add anything new. You can certainly make stuff that sounds like Basic Channel or Echospace, but unless you're just doing this as a hobby, why replicate when you should originate?

Pretty much any synth can do synth stabs. It's just an A minor chord on 2 & 4! The dub sound comes from subtle manipulation of filter cutoff, resonance, and effects. Dub techno arose out of dance music producers obsessed with King Tubby and Lee Perry applying the production techniques pioneered in dub reggae to techno.

So a dub techno track is a live performance -- tweaking effect sends & synth parameters in realtime to explore the sonic space.
