Is there anything out that that can do this? Or anything on the cards for the iPad/tablet?

How cool would it be for DJ's to travel around armed with 2 Vinyl's/CD's, Headphones and iPad and roll...

Nope... you would still need an interface of some sort. A 13" laptop is now too much to carry around? LOL

Nah your missing the point of just having something simple + small as the track selector. In the future hopefully N.I soundcards will be a club standard hard wired to the mixer... all the DJ has to do is arrive with iPad, vinyl/CD's, headphones and go....

No I see the point... I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

NI's soundcards are already installed in most big clubs, but they would need to have either wi-fi or bluetooth compatibility for it to work. I think plugging in a single USB cable is better from a stability / security standpoint with today's technology.

Yup rolling up + poppin the USB lead in is definitely the best bet.

I can see this all happening one day, it would basically just be a small portable digital record box for the decks be them 1210's or CDJ's...

Laptops, record boxes + CD wallets will all be a thing of the past

    No need to xPost, instinkt.

Personally, I don't get what's so bad about a laptop. I hear a lot of "hate" about laptops, people wanting to move to CDJs etc... What is this, 1999?

Also, why make anything standard? Just offer the DJ a large plane desk to work on and a master input. No need for all the forced standardization.

The posts were similarly themed but not identical.

Ye more and more people are interested in moving back to CDJ's and Turntable's. From talking to others we would all love to ditch the Laptop for a small touchscreen track selector which could be placed centrally in front/at the top of the mixer to form a central hub with the mixer of choice...

One day someone might even do an all encompassing mixer, with touchscreen and Traktor built in… all the DJ has to do is turn up with his memory stick & headphones.

Either way its the best of both worlds - and extremely simple.

I'm not saying it would be best to force anything - at the end of the day the DJ will decide whats best for them - whether they want something portable or don't mind setting up their current set-up at events... but having certain standards in clubs like 1210's, CDJ's, Pioneer, A&H mixers + N.I cards is only a good thing

Imagine a mixer with a 13" touch screen and a keyboard! And wouldn't it be awesome if this screen and keyboard were detachable from the mixer and the DJ could take it with him/her? Maybe one could also use this portable unit to buy tracks, prepare the tracklist and possibly even run a few additional software programs on it...

I'm dreaming, but wouldn't this be cool?

    :)

Give it a few years and what you have just said will hopefully be possible.

If only Apple, N.I + Allen & Heath/Pioneer could team up and create the tablet docking mixer that would be insane.

Like you say buying tracks, prepping tracks, playlists etc with iPads + Tablet and then using them with Decks, CDJ's + controllers is definitely the future

Jesus. You act like an iPad is that much different than a laptop. It's one ****ing cable. If a Macbook pro is too heavy for you to carry, get a Macbook air.

Did you seriously not get the irony in my above post?

The thought did occur... but I did genuinely think you was being enthusiastic about the idea. 11/10 for having me on big stylee

@ brocklambert - Ofcourse an iPad is that much different than a laptop. Placing a laptop infront/or at the top of the mixer aint gonna happen is it? plus it isn't touch screen, plus plus... etc
