I have just purchased and installed East West RA.

Sounds fantastic but I have one major problem.

If a mono instance of RA is called up and AU effects are added to the channel (either via a bus or an insert) Logic will crash. Logic's own effects seem to work fine but a AUMatrixReverb, for instance, will bomb immediately.

The stereo instance works fine and I tried YT Culture as a mono instance and that was fine too.

I have GPO which also runs on the Kompakt player and this will crash when one tries to play a mono instance.

I wondered if anyone else has had similar experiences or had a solution?

    I'm running Logic Pro 7.2.3 on a Dual 1.8GHz G5.

One possible solution I'm considering if I can't get this to work (especially as I'm getting ready to jump to the Intel Macs sometime next year) would be crossgrading to Kontakt 2. I've heard a lot of people saying that they avoid NI products in Logic though and Kontact is supposed to be a CPU hog.

The other is simply not use mono instances! The downside to that is stereo ones will use more CPU etc.

    Any comments/ideas welcome!

    Many thanks,

    Alan

I would also suggest contacting EastWest support:
    http://www.soundsonline.com/help.php

Even if the problem turns out to be with the NI "engine" (software that can only be updated by NI), EastWest can verify the problem and work with NI to try to get it resolved.

    Gday,
I've also just installed RA into my Mac to use with Logic Pro 7. It does exactly the same as you mentioned. Did you manage to resolve the problem. Like you, I'm fine when in stereo but Mono RA crashes on playback and on track freezing.

    hello.

there was no real solution to this, the general opinion was that NI instruments shouldn't even have mono versions, which was why it would crash. hard panning was mentioned as a workaround but it wouldn't cut down on the CPU load. seems like most softsynths (with the exception of some of logic's built in beasties and g-force) are not made in mono.

eastwest are releasing their own player (called 'play') 'sometime' this year, maybe this will allow mono instances?

as an aside, because of your reply to this thread i remembered reading that there was a GPO update coming with the a Kompakt 2 player... managed to get it up and running, i'm wondering if this is able to handle mono instances... time to read the PDf manual!
