Solved eBay reseller/buyer (secondhand) success?

On Oct 30th, I purchased Komplete 12 from a seller on eBay. Before the purchase, I specifically asked if they knew the product had been previously registered. They replied with "Since this item was brand new and unused, we assume that it has not been registered to another owner prior to us receiving the item in freight.".
After receiving the item and trying to register via Native Access, I got the error "Registration Error: The serial has been registered already." I immediately assume this means that the eBay seller has no contact with the original owner to request a reseller License Transfer ID.

The item is returnable through eBay within 30 days, but I put in a support ticket with NI Support, including all of the above info and the serial number. If asked, I can send photos of the actual hardware, box, and original serial card that was sent from the eBay seller.

Here's my question: Has anyone had any success with this type of issue or should I just immediately return the product to the eBay seller based on their claim of not being registered and describing the item as faulty? I obviously have time to resolve the issue before the 30 day return limit, but will NI work with me to resolve this or is there no reason to try? I get that people buy stuff, register and return items, it happens. But, will NI just tell me "tough luck" or will they actually help? Has anyone had a similar experience?

NI may contact person that registered SW. If that person cooperates and says, yes I have sold it and you may transfer the licence, than you will get the licence. Otherwise, probably not..... He may say, that he sold just media, that he had no use for and wants to keep the licencxe. Or not communicate at all.

 

Never buy software from an unauthorized retail seller on ebay, has been my experience.

 

I bought and sold NI SW many times secondhand. Not on eBay, but other platforms. So far, no problem, but of course one may have bad luck and be cheated....
But I buy from people who used that SW, not resellers, who got it, who knows where.....

 

NI resolved this issue for me within just a few days. They contacted the original license holder who released it. I just registered it, no problem. I'm now downloading the Komplete packages I want. Very fast resolution from NI support. I realize it might not always go this way, but I'm very grateful that NI just didn't tell me "bad luck, dude" and make me deal with it with the eBay seller. NI did not help me much in similar case few years ago. But it concerned just bundled SW to HW and I did not care much anyway.... And I know from this forum that NI has improved to a great extent in resolving such problems, during past years.

 

I can confirm that we did make our set-up a lot more flexible and our team is really trying to help whenever they can. There's obviously still cases where we can't release a serial if the previous owner doesn't respond but these should be more and more rare (especially for HW).
