hi, I am trying to edit the keyswitches on a Kontakt Factory Instrument and having no luck.
The insttrument I'm trying to edit is the Factory Library/Orchestra/VSL Strings/String Ensemble.nki. To keep the effort simple, let's say that I want to take the "Sustain" keyswitch - currently a "C 0" - and change it to an "A#-1".

I've watched a couple of vids and it all looks pretty simple by just changing the settings in Group Start Options/Group Starts OnKey/If Key is Between..." and I change both "C 0"'s to "A#-1" 's. And when I do that, down in the Kybd window, the red-highlighted "C 0"' should change back to white, and the white A#-1 should change to red.

But when i make the change, two things; first - down in the Kybd. window - the white "A#-1" does change to red, but the red "C 0" stays read and down not change to white. Secondly, I lose the "Sustains" altogether! That is, when I hit either the C 0 or the A#-1, I get no sound from the instrument at all. I can see midi coming in to the instrument, but there's no audio output. If I hit any of the other keyswtiches (pizz. , etc.) they all work fine - just no Sustain.
By the way, I thought that perhaps the "Dynamic Keyswitching" Script was messing with me, so I deleted it, but still no joy with the straight up keyswitching.

    any help greatly appreciated?

    thanks,
    willie myers

... why not carry on the dialogue in your previous thread? Or is there something new in this one?

it seemed to have hit a deadend in the previous thread. I thought someone familiar with this technique might offer a solution here?

Could it be affected by the "edit all groups" button? Missing that one has caused me grief from time to time. Just an idea ...

hey William (great name!) thanks for note,
no, I double checked that "edit all groups" was Off, sio I *should* have been editing only "Sustain"....but still no luck...

Ok, I am by no means an expert, but it looks like that instrument uses a keyswitch script either in addition or instead of the group key switch. Go to the script editor, you'll see a section "dynamic key switches".

yep - - did that and erased the "Dynamic Keyswitch" script (and saved and reopened) before I began editing the Group keyswitch,,..

Just out of curiosity I went in to the String Ensemble patch, Script Editor, and selected "bypass" in both tabs. "instrument" and "Dynamic Key Switches". Then I could change the Sustain Key switch in the Group Editor to be B-1 (or anything else). I think it's a slightly flawed script, under Dynamic Key Switches, probably using a base note of C0 somewhere (but it's a long script so I didn't immediately see the error).

William98, thanks for that! (using "Bypass")
