Just thought I would post this in case anyone else has been brave/stupid enough to update their gigging MBP to El Capitan Public Beta.

If you have, you will have discovered that the Audio 8 DJ doesnt like this version OS X at all, and as usual when it's confused, has decided to distort all audio passing through it. Not a little, but a lot (as in pray it doesn't happen to you at a gig through a big PA).

After going old school and doing my whole radio show on vinyl (lucky I had it with me), I started mucking about with Traktor 2.8.1 and the Audio 8 DJ. Flicking the latency up and down doesn't work, but what did was changing the sample rate for the Audio 8 DJ to 96 kHz in the Traktor settings and restarting Traktor. I did this the first time with Traktor playing and it did strange things to my timecode response - I use timecode vinyl and when I switched to absolute mode, the deck would pitch itself up to about +5. This was cured by restarting Traktor.

It's a workaround as there are occasional clicks still, but it just makes your set sound like you're playing off very pristine vinyl ;-)

Dunno if it was just me, so please use your discretion if you decide to try this. Then again, if your Traktor audio is distorted you probably can't make things worse.

    Are you playing stupid now?
OSX is being upgraded on a regular basis. The current version is 10.10 (Yosemite) - which was released to the public in October 2014.
The newest iteration is 10.11, El Capitan (El Capitan is a rock formation within the Yosemite national park, indicating that 10.11 is a minor release, like Mountain Lion was to Lion). It is currently in public beta and is expected to be released in September or October 2015.

As @OoGuN mentioned, upgrading to a beta OS on a production machine is stupid (I would not call it brave.. just stupid). Still, @OoGuN is kind enough to offer a workaround for a problem with the Audio 8 on 10.11 - for others who have foolishly installed a beta rlease on their machines.

Hope that clarifies some things for you, @mastermc.
