Hi there, how's it going? I'm currently in the market of purchasing a MIDI guitar controller or MIDI guitar and was told that using a Guitar Rig 3 to sample the guitar sounds was a very good idea.

But what I'm wondering is if Guitar Rig 3 is only limited to electric guitar sounds?

The thing is, I'm looking for something that not only allows me to produce a wide variety of electric guitars but also acoustic guitars as well.

For example, if I wanted my guitar to sound like a Les Paul electric then I know that Guitar Rig 3 can do this. But what if I wanted my guitar to sound like a Martin acoustic? Can Guitar Rig 3 also do this?

And while we're on the subject, is it possible to build my own guitar with custom sounds in Guitar Rig 3? Like if I wanted to just mix-and-match different components of different guitars into one truly unique guitar, would this be possible?

Thank you so much for your time and consideration and I look forward to your quick reply. Take care and we'll talk soon.

    Peace.

**Oh and before I forget, what type of MIDI guitar controller, MIDI guitar, or synth guitar would you guys recommend?

No. Guitar Rig is not a modeling simulator for objects, only effects, speakers and amps. You can emulate any amp you life, but the tone of the guitar will still be there.

For the MIDI guitar, you'd definitely want the AXON. It's a better unit than the Roland in terms of speed and accuracy.

I simply use my guitars plugged into a MOTU audio interface. Acoustic and electric. Before settling on Guitar Rig you might wanna check out other programs like Amplitube.

Can I put my Digitech Whammy pedal into my computer through the MIDI input and plug my guitar into that using a normal jack?

The whammy is not a MIDI converter, so no. The MIDI is just there to send/receive external MIDI messages from other pedals, or to automate the pedal from a sequence/host.

If money is not a problem...try a Parker Midifly. On the other side...you can try the G2M (guitar to midi) converter that costs only $100. ;)

If I understand you correctly you want to use a Midi-Controller to generate a sound in GR3.

This wouldn't work due to the very nature of this software. It is not a VSTi like Kontakt or FM8 that produce tones triggered via a Midi-Signal, but an effect that treats an already existing audio signal in a way as it would be treated by a guitar amp and effect pedals in the real world.

In GR3 you use Midi only to change the settings of the virtual amps and effects.

You therefore just plug a REAL guitar (acoustic or electric) into an audio interface with an high-Z input (e.g. Rig Kontrol or Audio Kontrol 1) that connects to your computer and voilá there is your sound.
