Here's an ensemble that synthesizes a violin or cello. It's a physical model that's controlled using gesture.

As a violin is played by pressing the bow against the string and then moving the bow back and forth, Serenade is played by pressing down a key and moving the bow fader control or modulation wheel back and forth.

The zip file includes the ensemble and two impulse files (a violin and a cello) that the output must be convolved with (100% wet).

Also attached is an mp3 file of a short violin and cello duet, played with the ensemble.

    Good work Chet, excellent work!
Im a noob in Reaktor, in fact, Im testing it. How can I automate the controls? The Gesture for example. In my DAW the automation parameters are empty (they work in other ensembles)

There are two ways to control the bowing on that ensemble. The first is to move the mod wheel back and forth. The second is to assign that long slider to a MIDI CC number.

The mod wheel or MIDI CC number really need to be moving back and forth for a note to sound. But I've never done automation in a DAW so I don't really know what else to say.

If all you want is a violin sound, this ensemble might not be for you. This is an experimental physical model that is controlled by actual gesture. You have to bow it, on every note, just like a violinist bows his instrument. It's quite difficult to play without practice.

Thanks for the answer, I was searching for some instrument (with a Viola, Violin sound) that I can manipulate. I wont play it live, but I want to program it. There are a lot of sample library's, but I can manipulate these sounds in this way.
I believe that with your instrument + automation I can achieve things not possible with a sample.

-- I managed to automate the bowing. Now I need practice
the file is a little test, a couple of notes that actually sounds like a Violin!

Wow, that sounds really nice. You're inspiring me to clean it up and finish the viola body. I'll try and make time this weekend to do that.

Thanks! Great, a Viola will be nice. You made the impulse files, or they can be download in another site?

I make them myself. I use student-grade instruments, but make some EQ adjustments to try and make them more professional-sounding. I already have a viola impulse; I just need EQ it against a decent-sounding sample set and make some adjustments to it.

Here's an updated version that includes five impulses: two violins, a viola, a cello, and a bass. The ensemble includes five snaps, one for each impulse.

Some controls are missing; I've been trying to simplify the appearance of the ensemble while keeping the essentials. If I've removed something you like, let me know and I'll put it back.

The Accent Amount control now has a logarithmic shape instead of a linear one, so you'll have to turn up the knob to get the same effect.
