That sucks. Seems very extreme as well. I mean damn who's to say he had'nt copied all those tracks from a vinyl collection. I've been copying all my vinyl to MP3 and WMA files for a very long time, then if I decide it's piece of vinyl I dont really care to keep for the collection I'll sell it on EBAY good lord then how are you gonna prove you owned the original copy at one time but since it took up too much room you got rid of it, but honestly officer RIAA man I did at one time own it really really I did I can describe the album sleeve (it was white or black since thats the most popular and cheapest cover for promo's unless of course you just get a lil paper sleeve haahahahhahaha) I can see this turning a huge mess. Also technically shouldnt the venue hold a license and pay re-broadcast fee's like radio does so this kind of thing doesnt happen. I'd almost suspect either the Gov was looking for a way to crack down on the clubscene and what better way than to go after the one providing the music ie the DJ. Jeezzz I can just imagine the RIAA joining up with the anti rave/part law passing US gov and going in and busting clubs all over confiscating hard drives from Dj's! The Gov win's because the party's get shut down, the RIAA wins since they have nailed another pirate, the dance music industry wins because they will still be selling vinyl as it seems to be the only safe way to DJ.

If you copy the vinyl to mp3 then sell it, that IS piracy....

edit: i mean you then sell the vinyl, not the mp3 :)

For once, I'm glad I'm not a famous DJ! Seriously though, this dj must have been playing lots of remixes of "pop" tunes. (Metallica maybe??) Most of the stuff I play has never been licensed by BMI, ASCAP, or similar. Once Beatport, Apple Music Store, and other legit downloading services opened with $1 dollar tracks I've gladly paid for licensed music. No need to steal at that price and the artist gets paid too!
