I recently installed and activated the latest (I think) updates to both GPO and JABB and the new K2 player. Now, however, when I load either one into Sonar 6.2 PE (as a VSTi) and try to load an instrument I get an error dialog saying "This patch was generated by a newer version of Kontakt, please update your product and reload". First, which product, Kontakt or GPO/JABB needs updating. Second, I've already updated. Third, has anybody else seen this behaviour and if so is there a fix or a workaround? Thanks!

Go to the updates manager and download Kontakt Player 2.2.3. (That's the absolute latest.) It should be listed under GPO and JABB updates, I think. Re-run this updater and it'll probably take care of the problem.

Yes, yorolpal. I am having the identical problem. And now there is an even more ambiguous direction: 'Please upgrade your copy to load the patch'. (!) Yesterday, I downloaded 2.2.3 and the problem has occurred SINCE then. I too would be delighted to know that there is a fix or workaround.
Using Harmony Assistant with GPO and J&BB via Kontakt Player 2.0 until yesterday. Reason for upgrade? Problem with 'cracking' notes which I was told would be fixed by the latest version. Not so, and I can't load any new instruments.
    Help, please!

(Oh, it's a matter of some slight urgency ... I am 84. Sometime within the next 20 years would be welcome.)

Getting NI-driven products to work on an Intel Mac

Just bought Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) and Kontakt 2. I'm using an Intel Mac, so had to have universal binary updates to use either one. The experience of installing and updating these applications, combined with multiple opportunities to install Native Instruments' Service Center along the way, had me pulling my hair for two solid days. Judging from the posts on this and other threads, I'm not alone.

Kontakt 2 installed without much difficulty. GPO and Kontakt Player 2 for GPO gave me no end of trouble. I'm a computer and audio veteran, too - a very long way from being a newbie in either field. Audio ON a computer, however, is relatively new to me.

After repeated installs, removals, and reinstalls, I was getting nowhere. Regardless of what I tried, GPO as a stand-alone would not load an instrument, period. I got the same error messages that many others have reported. Kontakt Player 2 would run GPO in demo mode, despite its being licensed and activated. Service Center dangled the availability of a new serial number for Kontakt Player 2 for GPO that might solve this problem, but never actually provided such a serial number, despite my having completed the request process several times. A GPO updater would download successfully, but the archive was corrupted every time, preventing my using it. I sent a web-mail to NI customer support, and was advised that a ticket had been created. Other than that automated acknowledgement, I never received a response to that inquiry.

In frustration I called NI's tech support in California. After 22 minutes on hold I spoke with a tech. I described what I had done and the results I had achieved. The tech's puzzlement increased as I provided answers to each of his questions over the next 15 minutes or so. Finally he took my number, said he had to talk to a registration supervisor, and would call me back. About half an hour later he did. I was provided a serial number for the GPO Kontakt Player 2, told to remove all vestiges of both GPO and Kontakt Player 2 from my system, and reinstall both. (The process was described by "Steve2000" in his 9 Sep 2007 "Activation and freezing problems" post to the NI User Forums. He described removing Guitar Rig, but the procedure is essentially the same.) Removing these files manually is tedious, and I'd had a belly full of tedium by this time. So I used File Buddy instead. Running key word searches permitted me to find and remove the installed files almost instantly. I had multiple installations/updates of "NI Service Center" or just "Service Center," and decided to remove all traces of them, as well. I figured starting with a clean slate maximized my chances of success. It ultimately worked for me, so I thought it might help someone else to describe what I did, step-by-step.

Assuming that all traces of prior installations have been removed, the steps to get everything working are:

    - Download the latest version of Service Center from NI's web site.
    - If it's available without using Service Center, download the latest updater for your software.
    - Install your product from its original medium. I recommend "Easy Install" if it's available, so as not to miss anything that might be important down the road. (You can remove unused stuff later.) Do not run your installed product or the "Registration Tool" application (if any) that's installed with it.
    - Run the product updater, if you have one. Do not run the updated product.
    - Install the latest Kontakt Player 2 for your product. Do not run it.
    - Install the latest Service Center. Do not run it.
    - Use Apple's Disk Utility to repair permissions on your disk.
    - Run Service Center and provide/create your login and password. This gets you into NI's on-line system.
    - If you can download a serial number within Service Center for your product's Kontakt Player 2, do so. If you can't download one, call NI tech support in California. It's a giant PIA, but until NI gets its Service Center act together, it's the only way to get the necessary SN.
    - On Service Center's activation page both your product and its associated player should appear as candidates for activation. Activate them using the original SN for your product (provided in its documentation or packaging) and the Kontakt Player 2 SN provided by NI (whether via Service Center or tech support). Once activated they should work normally.

The above process worked for me. Of course, your mileage may vary. FWIW, I'm using OS X 10.4.10 on a Mac Pro.

A last caveat is that the non-universal binary stand-alone product still will not work; that's WHY you need the Kontakt Player 2 for your product. Launch Kontakt Player 2 instead of the stand-alone application to use your product.

Hope this makes life easier for somebody else.

I'm not sure, but at this point, check with Garritan's tech support.

You probably have a KP1 VST file still sitting around. It will have a name similar to GarritanJAZZVst.dll. You should *not* try to load this file, as it will give you exactly the symptom you describe. Instead, you should load KontaktPlayer2.dll, which in turn will find and make available all of your Garritan sample files that use KP2.

The point is that when you run the updater, one of the things it does is to update your sample files to KP2. KP1 will no longer play those files, so you can't use it for anything any more.
