I'm then asked to locate the file which I do. After directing Pro53 to the location of the file the program launches and everything is fine.

I'd expect Pro 53 to remember the location of the file but I get this message every time I launch the program. How do I fix this?

I'm the only one with this problem?! Great.

Are you talking standalone or plugin? I'll bet you're talking plugin, and I'll bet you didn't run the standalone first after either the original install or the update install.

Run it in standalone. If you get the "can't find file" message, locate it. Close Pro-53 and reboot your system.

    See if that works.

While I appreciate your taking a moment to respond, you sure assumed alot in that post!

This behavior occurs in both standalone and plug in modes. As per your other assumption, I did indeed run the Pro 53 in stand alone mode before trying to use it within my DAW.

I have spoken with NI tech support since originally posting this and they acknowledged this 'bug' as a known issue. They could only suggest repairing my disk permissions and 'seeing if that works'. It did not.

    Cheers

It was only a bet Ew made, and was most likely to solve the problem; even if in this case it didn't!

Have you done a search for the 'def.p5a' file on the filesystem as maybe this file has been deleted?

For my Mac it is in applications\Pro-53\Presets.

    Cheers

    Andy you rock!

I had made a separate folder within my applications folder in order to consolidate all of my NI software into one location. While I kept directing the Pro 53 to the 'def.p5a' file, apparantly it could not remember the location whith the additional subfolder thrown in it's path.

I simply moved the Pro 53 folder outside of the subfolder back to the main applications folder, redirected the Pro 53 to the 'def.p5a' file one last time and now it remembers the location perfectly.

    Thanks for the help :D

p.s. I'm sure EW's intentions were good but phrases that start with, 'I bet you didn't...' can easily be misconstrued as condescension when relying soley on the written word. My apologies to EW if I took it the wrong way.

Me too. I was hoping moving the file to the main applications folder instead of a sub folder would fix it, but alas - it still asks in stand-alone & plug-in mode.

    Hi Bob,
That might work for the PC, but not on the Mac.

    Hi,

Have a look at the other thread again, Andy Wilde has posted to default location of the file on OSX.

    Cheers

As mention ed in the other 2 threads, I have the path set correctly and the contents of them are all correct, but it still asks everytime for every instance.

    Hi,

The only other thing I can think of is to repair the permissions on the disk, maybe that will sort it out.

    Cheers

    Hi Matt,

I'm at a loss now, have you tried to contact NI support?

    Cheers

Yes, I have ..... absolutely no response other than the automatically generated 'it's in the system' message....and that was a few weeks ago.

    Regards,
    Matt

    def.p5a file - windowsXP

After re-formatting my HD, I re-installed Pro53. I probably should have started w/ the original Pro52 disk, but I did not. Now I do not have the def.p5a file anywhere. I guess it is in the installer on the Pro52 disk. I did find the other missing files, but not the default library. Is the only way to stop this message to remove Pro53, then re-install Pro52/Pro53 update?
Can I find the default library anywhere on NI's site?
I guess I could also just rename one of my banks def.p5a.

    still happening

After a year, I'm still dealing with the def.p5a question. Now, in Final Cut Pro, it asks, and the dialogue won't go away. I hit 'OK' about a hundred times at first, now 1000 times still won't clear the dialogue, and I can't even associate the file. Anyone else having this issue? I am re-downloading Pro-53 as we speak, I'll try re-installing, however I have tried this before. The sad thing is, I don't think I've really ever used that plug... I would hate to delete the whole plug because of this issue - I may use it someday.

    same problem for me

Hi, I just recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro. Pro-53 worked fine on my PB G4, but now I get this same error, even though everything is in it's proper place. I've erased it and reinstalled to no avail.

...same here guys, I am having the same problem also. I just installed Komplete 5 and Live 7 and upon starting up live for the first time with K5 installed & Live is completely frozen because the def.p5a message is up and for some reason it will not respond when I click "ok". In the past I was at least able to relocate the file and get on with being productive. Anyone have any ideas?
