...well, I was able to force quit the application in order to get rid of the error message and then I moved the entire Pro-53 folder to the applications folder (where it wants to be in mac osx) and now I can open instances of Pro-53 without the error message. I guess it was a bad idea creating an additional "Native Instruments" folder within my "Applications" folder for organizational reasons (being that I own Komplete 5 and like to keep my folders tidy). Anyway, at this point in time every other NI app is fine in my sub-folder but I will keep Pro-53 in "Applications" by itself until an update comes along that will allow us to redirect it to other locations on the hard drive and also have Pro-53 remember it's location. No biggie...

I'm actually really impressed with Komplete 5... the install process, although taking some time due to all of the install disks and samples to transfer, seems to have been a lot more solid than in the past with K3 & K4. The service center worked like a charm and this def.p5a issue was the only problem I encountered during the entire install and it was partially my fault for wanting to create a sub-folder. Now that this has been sorted out I can't wait to dig in and explore the new features of Komplete 5 and be productive again!

Thanks for posting this thread guys... some of your suggestions and replys are what helped me out with this. Much appreciated!

    All the best,

    John

I have been having this problem for a crazy long time, just downloaded the 3.0.5 update, and the problem has completely gone away, both audio unit and standalone.

I am having this exact issue on the Mac.

I thought the PC install was bad 6 weeks ago! Installing on the Mac has been filled with errors, locked up NI applications, etc.

This is really discouraging to see the problem go on for so long with no apparent response from NI.

I just checked my Pro53 version number which is 3.0.4. Hoping 3.0.5 might fix the problem, I went to the service center, and alas, most everything had updates, but Pro53 was not one of them.

What a PITA NI is turning out to be.

Guess I'll have to email NI tomorrow about 3.0.5.

Acoustik piano won't authorize (service center says it's authorized, but it thinks it is not),

I've got two bad DVDs for Kontakt, so I can't install it,

When trying to install Kore 2 today, I had to force quit it at least 4 times.

And all these products keep popping up windows that no amount of clicking will make go away (I had to force quit akoustik piano at least 4 or 5 times already).

i'm starting to regret I bought Komplete and Kore.

On a positive note, Spectrasonics Omnisphere installed flawlessly today, and it runs like a champ on an 8 core Mac!

You can download 3.0.5 from the website without using service center.

If you are running leopard you really need to install all updates as the original disks you have may be pre-leopard disks.

    Cheers

If I recall correctly, Komplete 2 on the Mac installed everything into a single folder named Komplete 2 created inside Applications. I don't know about Komplete 3, but Komplete 4 changed the installation script so that the individual parts were scattered about the Applications folder instead of being consolidated inside one.

The result is that many of those .plist files written at installation time will break if you subsequently move the individual parts into a newly created folder named Komplete 4. The reason for this is that the file and folder paths referenced in the .plist files are no longer correct.

You can, however, as I did, open the .plist files and edit these incorrect paths using a .plist editor.

By the way, Pro-53 is not the only app affected by this – Guitar Rig, Akoustic Piano, and Kontakt are too (maybe others too but I can't remember because it's so long since I had to do it).

I have yet to read any explanation from NI as to why Komplete cannot install to a single parent folder inside Applications. It's one of the main reasons I detest installing and setting up NI software and avoid it if at all possible.

    Kind regards.

I had the same problem, but solved it by manually loacting the file. It was in Pro-53>Presets>def.p5a. After that, it couldn't locate the ControllerMap.txt which was in Pro-53>Controller maps>ControllerMap.txt.

That was really clever of you, boasting about what you use on official NI forums. Good going!

    It worked!

Dave Bourke, you are a genius!

I was having problems with the all of the Komplete plugins (especially the Pro-53) after installing in a different directory than Applications. Editing the plist files fixed EVERYTHING!

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Jon

there's something very autocratic about the way NI implement their software. If the user tries to organize his documents and folders in a way that suits his own style, NI apps often refuse to function. I cant think of any other software company that has such inflexible installations.

My applications and documents folder are a mess after installing so many NI apps, and everytime I try and tidy them, the NI apps through a fit.

I actually figured out the problem, but, this will help you.. you don't actually need the file because I'm about 100% sure it's there (App>Pro-53>Presets>def.p5a)

But what you need to do is right click (or if you're using a macbook[pro]) on that file and click 'get info'

go to the bottom of the little thing where it has a picture of a lock, unlock it,

and change the access privileges of 'everyone', which for me happened to be set to 'no access', to read, and write.

This fixed the problem for me... I bought complete 5 a while back, but have yet to get a chance to install it because my disc drive on my mac crapped out, so I had to figure out away around it... so no more reformatting guys.. just give yourself access to the file you need.

    Hey,

I had the exact same problem when trying to install final cut pro 6. even though I had deleted the pro 53 package, final cut kept looking for the mystery key. the problem is that both the component files were still in my plug ins folder, user>library>audio>plugins>components This resolved my problem anyway.

same problem here. here is one trick.

If you keep double clicking on the ok button eventually a dialog box comes up that lets you locate the file.

found it by accident and it seems to work for me.

    Problem solved

    SETUP
OS: Mac OSX 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
    Program: Ableton Live
    Pro-53: Version 3.0.3.007

    PROBLEM
Okey guys. I've had the same problem as most of you:
Every time I launch Pro 53 I get the message, 'Cannot find default file 'def.p5a'. Then I have to either click "OK" 100 times and locate the file or use "Force Quit".

    SOLUTION
Remove the plist pref that you find, location listed below:

    /users/YOUR USER/Library/Preferences/Pro-53.plist

    ------

    Thank you djacko@ni-reaktor.com
    ---
    I WANT TO ADD I ALSO FOUND A FILE CALLED: Pro-53 18-19-31.plist

    REMOVED THAT ONE AS WELL
