    Hi

So i guess this question applies to external synths and soft synth parts, but have started playing about with some external synths, mostly sampling 2 to 4 bar loops in and have been wondering how to start incorporating longer synth parts that I can tweak over time, maybe even a while track. Currently though if I was to sample say a 32 bar part and wanted to vary the drums over those 32 bars, I either need to create a 32 bar drum pattern or break the synth sample into smaller parts. What I essentially want is to have a pattern that spans multiple scenes. Is that possible and if not what's generally the best approach to wanting to automate a part over an extended period of time?

When I listen to a track with a 303 bubbling away throughout it..was that whole track recorded live or was the 303 part recorded live over the top of an arrangement? Whats the usual.process?

Hope that makes sense and isnt a stupid question. Am new to maschine and music production in general.

    Cheers

you can use a one bar pattern but then it gets repeated 32 times, you can also enter that pattern into different scenes/sections.

But if I have a one bar pattern and sample one bar I cant then automate the synth over 32 bars? Surely I need to sample the 32 bars into a 32 bar pattern, but then stuck with same problem of needing a 32 bar drum pattern to use with it. Not understanding how to get round this

ahh ok yes correct of course you need a 32 bar pattern if you want to automate in that pattern over the 32 bars.
Then i got you wrong in the first place

But what if I want to automate say a 303 over the length of an entire track? Do I need to just do the entire track in a single pattern?

no you can select just several sections and the automation get´s written through all the patterns in the sections

yes of course you have to set them to unique

unfortunately there is no quick solution for your problem within maschine, only record longer parts and divide them, or record as midi and record automation like i said over sections

Do this and then slice the sample into smaller chunks. Alternatively, record the longer part in smaller phrases, which has its advantages (this is what I do).

You could have a 32 bar midi pattern sending midi cc then record that to an audio module track then split that to 4 x 8 bar patterns by moving the start /end points
