Just wondering if there is anyway you can extract the 4 tracks inside a stem file and apply them to a remix deck?

Im stuck on Traktor 2.8 due to my operating system being to old (Not ready to update at this stage as it will mean prob a week of downtime from ProTools which I can afford!). This means I dont have Stem decks but i do have remix decks. I love remix decks and just really want to use some of this new Stems content IN a remix deck.

Obviously i could manually record the Audio of a stem file if i could play the stem parts individually but atm i think traktor is the only software capable of this?

Anyone got any idea of how you could bust open a Stem file and use the parts in a Remix deck?

Use audacity freeware, a tutorial was posted here...

But keep in mind starting stems in the remix decks is limited unless chopped to lengths that work more like sampling. Not saying it's impossible but the track format and the ability to go from track to track is not as easy on the remix decks. Basically the track stem parts won't be timed correctly.
But then again the same sounds may end up being sampled just fine and give for a more mixed result.

Thanks for the Reply Zephry!! Excellent Video. I knew it must be possible to bust the format open just need to know what to use!

Regarding the issue you raise, I'm yet to try it out, but there is no size limit to the Remix deck cells so loading the four parts in, wont be an issue. Then provided the cell Sync feat is on, and you press play on all 4 at the same time, will it not behave in a manner very similar to stems?

Regardless its not a big issue, after christmas ill spend a week updating my OS so i can then Update traktor and use stems properly.

The size is only an issue for loops I guess.
Yeah pressing all 4 or even mapping them should work. In my head I just imagined starting and stopping the separate stems but using mute would be fine.
The only issue would be cue points and basically waiting for the parts you want to fade in or out. But usable, good idea.

I tested Audacity for the extracting, it works.

You can drop a track including a stem one in a cell but on the other hand there is a size limit when you want to extract a loop from a track to a remix cell.
In addition you can't directly extract a loop from a stem track to a remix cell. What you need to do is record your loop with the loop recorder then add the recorded loop to the remix cell (meaning you can record separate stems with it by muting the other part). That implies you are restricted to a 32 beats loops.

Yul oops, we were talking about extracting the stem parts first in separate software(audacity). The full length parts put in the sample slots and started altogether, (pretty sure that can be mapped).
But as you say an actual loop needs to be an accurate bar length and it all sounds good but yeah I've never tried to time my samples on cue more than maybe 2 at a time.
Gold in please post your results, it would be interesting to find out how well it works.
Then again I might give it a try tomorrow with some of my stem parts if it works it would skip a step for me and have a couple per set.
